Der Golden Gate Park bietet uns hier eine sieben Meilen lange, asphaltierte Runde für entspannte Z2-Läufe, und der Park ist immer voller Läufer. Am Embarcadero geht’s flach los, wenn du Fisherman’s Wharf, Marina Green und die Golden Gate Bridge miteinander verbindest. Das sind dann so 5 bis 7 Meilen und es fühlt sich an, als ob du aus der Stadt rauskommst, ohne sie wirklich zu verlassen. Crissy Field hat eine 5-Meilen-Schleife, auch asphaltiert, super für Intervalle. Der Crosstown Trail geht über 17 Meilen, wenn die base miles mal ein bisschen Biss brauchen. Die San Francisco Running Company führt einen auf die Trails der Marin Headlands, z.B. auf den Mt. Dort gibt es den Ninja Lite Loop, eine 5-Meilen-Runde mit etwa 1.500 Fuß Höhenunterschied. Der Lake Merced Half Marathon und die Summer Evening Race Series sind gute Anker-Rennen, an denen man sich orientieren kann.

Der Sommer bleibt kühl und neblig, also zieht man sich windfest an, geht zum Laufen an den Ocean Beach oder Lands End und fährt mit dem Rad Richtung Norden, wenn die Headlands oder Mt. Tam gut aussehen. Der Nebel ist in den östlichen Vierteln und im Spätsommer nicht so stark. Im Winter gibt’s kühle, feuchte Tage, da weichen Läufer dann auf den Golden Gate Park, den Embarcadero, Lake Merced und die Presidio Loops aus, während Radfahrer ihre base miles auf den City Lanes, im Golden Gate Park, auf dem Paradise Loop und den Headlands-Routen sammeln, wenn das Wetter mal mitspielt.
