90e Sloterplasloop

The Sloterplasloop is an annual running event around the Sloterplas in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, with the lake as the center of the day. It is organized by AAC, the Amsterdam athletics and running club, and it keeps the field fairly local-feeling with a cap of 2,000 participants. The main running choices are 5 km and 10 km, both chip-timed and both offering prize money. The program also makes room for more than standard road racers: children up to 6 can run 750 meters, children up to 12 can run 1,500 meters, and walkers get a 7.5 km route. The event listing also includes a relay, student participation, adapted sports, and a park-run setting, so the day is built for club runners, families, walkers, and newer participants rather than one narrow race crowd.
