The Borgersloop is a Wednesday-evening recreational run held in Park Borgerswold, Veendam, organized by SV Veendam Atletiek. It begins near the mound by the Fauna balloon field and event area, welcoming runners aged 6 and up. Children aged 6 to 9 complete 800 meters, those aged 10 to 12 run 1,600 meters, and participants 13 and older can opt for one, two, or three laps of 2.7 km, covering 2.7 km, 5.4 km, or 8.1 km respectively.
The youth races utilize a short cross-country loop around the event grounds. Older participants follow a varied lap course featuring both paved paths and unpaved sections through Borgerswold's green recreation area. This event functions as a local sports evening rather than a formal championship; adults do not receive an official final ranking, though children up to age 12 do get results and prizes. One past edition recorded 167 finishers, ranging from a 6-year-old to a 74-year-old, with 100 individuals completing the full three-lap 8.1 km distance; a runner from Great Britain also participated.
