Dorpsloop Hoevelaken begins and ends on Kantermarsweg, opposite the Lidl, marking the start of Hoevelaken’s Dorpsdag. This is an annual road race designed for a small-town field, not a large mass start, with a limit of 700 runners and recent participation exceeding 400. The event offers races for children and adults: an 880-meter KidsRun for children up to age 9, a 1,760-meter JuniorRun for ages 10 to 12, and 5 km and 10 km races for runners aged 12 and older.
The children’s races consist of short loops, and parents are permitted to run with the youngest participants in the KidsRun. The 5 km and 10 km races commence together later in the morning, with prizes awarded afterward, while junior awards follow the youth races. Race-day registration takes place in a large tent on the Lidl parking lot, and timing is managed with an Ipico chip attached to the runner’s shoe. The event maintains a village atmosphere: participants are encouraged to arrive by bicycle or on foot due to restricted parking, traffic controllers manage access points, and facilities include changing rooms, first aid, and supervised bag storage. The mayor has traditionally fired the starting gun and presented prizes, aligning with the race’s function as the sporting commencement of Dorpsdag.
