The Graef Castricum Trail is a winter trail running and walking event held in Castricum, North Holland. Participants explore the Noordhollands Duinreservaat, a large dune reserve spanning over 7,300 hectares between Wijk aan Zee and the Schoorl dunes. The event offers distances from a short 1.5 km for children to a 60 km ultra, with popular options at 7, 11, 23, and 35 km. CAIRN Trails & Adventures organizes the event, which features running, canitrail, and walking categories.
The routes are marked, but self-sufficiency is encouraged. Aid stations are provided, though participants must use their own cups. The varied terrain within the dune area emphasizes efficient movement over flat speed. The ultra race begins early, and participants can opt to carry a tracker for remote monitoring by friends or crew. Now in its sixth edition, the race attracts a diverse field of ultra runners, trail runners, walkers, families, and participants with dogs.
