The Halve Marathon Uithuizermeeden is a 21.1-kilometer road race held in Groningen, in the northern Netherlands. It takes place between Eemshaven and Uithuizermeeden, with over 300 participants in its first running from the port. Stichting Eemshemeeden established the race due to declining interest in the earlier Eemsmondloop 5k and 10k events.
The initial course began at Borkumkade in Eemshaven and concluded at Johan Veenplein in Uithuizermeeden. Participants traveled from Uithuizermeeden to the start by train, providing a point-to-point course rather than a circuit. The first race acquired the local moniker “ordeal of the north” due to continuous snow and slick roads, making the half marathon more challenging than its distance implies. Local club runners played a significant role, with Artemis from Winsum achieving podium finishes in older age groups and setting six personal bests.
