The Tombstone MTB Race

The Tombstone MTB Race is a mountain bike event in Hanmer Springs, with riders heading onto a local course in the Hurunui region. Its second edition drew 100 participants, indicating a young race with a compact field rather than a large festival-style event. The field included both elite riders and younger mountain bikers. Olympic rider Anton Cooper was present to hand out prizes as a Hurunui ambassador. Cooper has a personal connection to Hanmer Springs: he raced there as a youngster, trained there on foot and by bike, and later helped organize mountain biking events in the region.
