About this race
Murchison House Station marks the start for Adventurethon: Kalbarri, a downstream paddle from "dryland cattle country to the coast." It offers a genuine river day out, not a refined city race, with native vegetation nearby, "brightly coloured cliffs" visible, and the feeling of traversing "ancient country moulded by the unstoppable force of the river."
The racing is flat water, but engaging: anticipate "spectacular scenery, tidal influences and shallow water," with quicker routes available in deeper sections. Alternative courses begin and end at Kalbarri Foreshore, featuring a turn near Castle Rock, bringing first-time paddlers, children, competitive racers, and doubles teams together in the same river environment. Some participants compete seriously, while others bring an Esky, but all reach the riverbank finish, cheered on by the Canoe and Cray crowd.
