About this race

The 13th annual Darkness to Daylight Challenge, held around the Parliament House grounds, has the character of a serious ultra with a deeply human purpose. This community event raises funds to end domestic and family violence, and its core message is stark: each kilometre run represents one life lost to domestic and family violence in Australia annually. This transforms it into more than a lap-counting exercise; it truly embodies a "movement for change." The course follows accessible terrain around the Parliament House precinct, near George and Alice Streets. The emphasis is on sustained effort rather than technical running. Ultra runners are the primary participants, whether completing the challenge steadily in person or dividing it into segments via the virtual option. The unique aspect is the purpose embedded in every kilometre, giving the night-to-morning event a distinct draw compared to a standard endurance test.
