Heysen Trail Ultra Marathon
SAT OCT 24
The historic Heysen Trail forms the backbone of this event, traversing "pine forests, fields and bushland" and entering countryside that explains its status as one of South Australia's "iconic events." The Heysen Trail Ultra Marathon offers a genuine ultra running experience: lengthy, sufficiently exposed to warrant caution, and grounded in the Southern Hills Region and Fleurieu Peninsula rather than being artificially enhanced. The course presents varied terrain, with trail, open fields, forest stretches, and bushland contributing to the journey before concluding at Soldiers Memorial Gardens on the South Coast. The participants are the dedicated ultra runners: individuals adept at enduring hardship discreetly, supporting one another during difficult moments, and genuinely meaning it when describing it as a "race packed with scenery, camaraderie and the making of lifelong memories."
Jetty2Jetty Series 2026
SUN NOV 8
Largs Bay and its jetties define the course: Largs Jetty, Grange, Semaphore, Henley, and Brighton, connected by the coastal path. The 2026 Jetty2Jetty Series is a six-part, self-supported marathon series, taking the place of the former Coastal 42 Series. It offers a practical approach instead of a large-scale event. Expect out-and-back laps configured to achieve the marathon distance. This means steady running along the coastal path with recurring views of the same landmarks. The event is open to beginners, families, and experienced runners, with participants managing their own race day: there are no cut-off times, bibs and medals are provided at check-in, and runners "record their own run on Strava or the like" using elapsed time. Completing all six races earns a "Series medal"; a portion of the proceeds supports ACRF in their mission to #endcancer.
Reindeer Run
SUN NOV 29
Lakewood Park anchors this 27-year holiday tradition, a December race morning where the running is only part of the point. The Reindeer Run combines a chip-timed road race with the Merry Mile and the b.a. Sweetie Dasher Dash, offering serious bibs, young children's excitement, and ample Santa-hat energy in one location. The start is at Lakewood Park, featuring live results, QR codes near the finish, music, food, refreshments, and awards. Children 10 and under have special pricing, the 8-and-under Dasher Dash participants receive a race bib and goody bag, and the holiday elements continue with a Reindeer Run Swag Apparel Item, a Reindeer Run Finisher Medal Ornament, and Searchable Race Photographs with Santa & Dasher.

About Marathon races in Adelaide

Adelaide Miles And Hills

Adelaide hosts 7 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals keep Adelaide running pretty simple. The River Torrens Trail gives you steady Z2 through Karrawirra Parri, and the Adelaide Botanic Garden loops give you 2-4km when you only need a tidy shakeout. UniLoop is the interval spot, with The Run Club Adelaide meeting there every Thursday at 6 am and Adelaide Running Crew starting Wednesday nights in North Adelaide. Unley Run Club rolls from Unley Social, and Southern Sharks handle Christies Beach sessions. City Bay Fun Run, Brooks Adelaide Marathon Festival, Ultra Adelaide, and Corporate Cup Adelaide CBD Run/Walk give the calendar its anchor events.

The Adelaide Hills are the favourite training ground for locals seeking strong climbing form. The city centre sits near the plains, but Mount Lofty reaches 710m, so base miles can turn into proper climbing fast. Norton Summit gives the classic test, and the Old Freeway to Norton Summit Loop packs 52km with 971m of elevation. Adelaide Hills Cycling Club runs regular racing in the Adelaide Hills, with inclusive racing for riders of all skill and fitness levels. Tour Down Under is the anchor event, while Willunga Hill, Mount Osmond, Corkscrew Climb, CLELAND XL, and Coast and Vines Rail Trail keep road, gravel, and singletrack riders busy.

Spring and autumn suit both sports best, because the city feels ready for longer Z2, sharper intervals, and bigger weekends without the summer bite. Summer brings hot, dry days, with several days reaching or exceeding 35°C, so locals go super early, keep beachside spins from Glenelg to Grange in mind, and treat exposed climbs with respect. February gives Gulf St Vincent an average sea temperature of 22°C, which makes post-run or post-ride water time pretty tempting. Winter turns cool and wetter, June brings around 80mm of rain, and Cleland can get rougher and rockier after hefty falls.
