Sydney Training Notes
Sydney hosts 7 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
Locals keep the easy miles close to water. The Bay Run is always good, and Kyeemagh down to Dolls Point stays very scenic and very flat and fast. Tempe gives you Cook's River rhythm, and that path can run for about 10km toward Canterbury Racetrack. Manly sends you along Manly Beach, past Shelly Beach, then uphill to North Head. Bondi to Coogee gives you a 15K out and back with beach views the whole way. Sydney Run Club, 440 Run Club Bronte, Bondi Beach Run Club, BRAT, and Coogee Run Club keep the social pace honest. City2Surf Sydney and TCS Sydney Marathon are the anchor events.
Sydney Cycling Club keeps Centennial Park as the launch pad, with rides starting by Spruce Goose Diner on Parkes Drive. Weekday bunches roll at 6:00 am, and weekend bunches roll at 6:30 am before coffee or breakfast back in the park. The Tuesday Lapa + Malabar ride gives you 29km with 300m elevation, while Wednesday Watsons Bay packs 30km with 600m. Vaucluse hills, Heart Break Hill, Cranbrook Road, Cottage Point, 3 Gorges, Mosman Alps, and Brooklyn bring the climbs. The Blue Mountains, Sutherland Shire, Narrow Neck Peninsula, Andersons and The Oaks firetrails, and Lady Carrington Drive handle gravel, singletrack, and Z2 base miles.
Spring and autumn are the sweet spot. September to November and March to May give runners and riders the best rhythm for intervals, long Z2, and weekend blocks. Summer brings warm to hot days, and the sea usually sits around 23-25°C. The metropolitan area can see 35 to 65 days above 30°C, with inland western suburbs hotter than the CBD, so locals start early and carry water on long rides. Winter stays mild to cool, with sea temperatures around 18-20°C. Western Sydney can catch early frost, and west-to-east riding from March to September can mean headwinds, cold, and rain.
