Harbour Hustle

Harbour Hustle is a one-mile run or walk across the Macdonald Bridge, connecting Halifax and Dartmouth in Nova Scotia. It takes place in August, beginning in the morning, with the entire course confined to a short 1.6 km section on the bridge. Previously known as MACPASS Miles, its straightforward slogan, “One Bridge, Endless Hustle,” reflects the event’s focus: a quick crossing for all participants rather than an extended road race. The participants are divided into men’s, women’s, youth, and under-10 children’s heats, accommodating adults competing seriously, teenagers, young children, and parents with toddlers. Youth and children participate without charge, while adult registration is inexpensive. The race benefits North Grove, a community center, and the event is designed to be family-oriented, welcoming walkers and runners from preschool age to seniors. Bibs must be collected the day prior, and dogs, except for service animals, are prohibited on the course.

Kicking PancreAS™ 5K - Nova Scotia

The Kicking PancreAS 5K - Nova Scotia is an evening 5K run/walk held at the Mic Mac Canoe Club in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It is designed for runners and walkers of all abilities, offering a 90-minute course window and check-in prior to the start. The event supports pancreatic cancer awareness, patient support, healthcare education, and Canadian research, aiming to raise CA$55,000 from 500 participants. The route covers five kilometres at the participant's own pace, with finishers receiving a medal, running bib, and event swag. The race encourages participants to wear purple, glow-in-the-dark gear, and costumes to visually represent its cause. All funds raised remain in Canada. The event is intended for families, teams, youth, Run NS members, first-time participants, walkers, and individuals seeking to achieve a personal 5K goal.

Lunenburg 5km Road Race and Muffin Run

The Lunenburg 5km Road Race and Muffin Run is a June 5K walk or run in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, starting from the community centre. It is part of the Run Nova Scotia Race Series, sending participants through a UNESCO World Heritage town on an open-course route. The event also serves as a local fundraiser for the West Nova Fuels Soccer Club, the Canadian Dory Racing Association, and the Lunenburg Dory Program. The route passes the boardwalk, the Bluenose, working fishing vessels, old town streets, and the Lunenburg Academy before returning to town for a downhill finish. The course remains open until late morning, accommodating both runners and walkers. Stroller runners should start at the back, and non-service dogs are not permitted. Following the race, awards and a reception take place at the Lunenburg Community Center, featuring hundreds of homemade muffins served by volunteers. Local merchants contribute draw prizes, raffle draws enhance the community atmosphere, and awards are presented to Lunenburg County runners.

About cycling & running in Halifax

Halifax Training Notes

Running: Locals do a lot of honest running from Point Pleasant Park, where the trail web gives you 39 km of forested paths, coastal edges, and enough short rises for intervals. T. Rails to Trails gives Beechville, Lakeside, and Timberlea runners 13 km of steady crusher dust for Z2 and long-run rhythm. The trail works for 5 km repeats when you need something simple. Halifax Hares run Wednesdays, Queer Run Club meets Saturdays at 9:15 am under the Terra Cafe sign, and BLT Runners, North End Runners, Halifax Trail Runners, and Parkrun keep the calendar full. Run Like HECS, McNabs Half Marathon, Harbour Hustle 2026, and Kicking PancreAS™ 5K - Nova Scotia are the anchor events locals talk about.

Cycling: Locals ride the Chain of Lakes Trail and Barrington Greenway when the legs want easy spin, then point the front wheel toward Purcell's Cove Road or St. Margaret's Bay Road when the climbs need to bite. The BLT is the main ride, and logging roads north of it turn base miles into proper mixed surface gravel/pavement days. Finbars Cycling Club rolls from Bedford on Thursdays at 6:30pm, City of Lakes Cycling Club leaves Grahams Grove on Wednesdays at 6:30pm, and Cortado Cycling Club, Off Track Cycling Club, Rocky Lake Cycling Club, Nova Scotia Ramblers, and Cyclesmith Cycling Club cover the road, gravel, pace-line, and gran fondo crowd. Spring Bicycle Tune-Up sits on the local event list, and the crit, cyclocross, and MTB energy comes through clubs like East Coast Mountain Bike Association.

Season: The climb is 6 km with 750 m of elevation. The route is 3 km when you want a sharp local hit. Winter changes the kit and the pace for both sports, but locals still run Point Pleasant, Shubie Park, Hemlock Ravine Park, and the Chain of Lakes Trail when footing works. m.
