Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly
15. Apfellauf 2026
The Apfellauf begins and ends on company property in Laubuseschbach, located at An den Obstwiesen 2. This June running event offers two straightforward race choices: a 5 km single lap or a 10 km double lap. The primary races commence in the morning, with the 5 km starting first, followed soon after by the 10 km. A free children's run around midday is available for participants up to age 9.
The course winds past orchards, then proceeds along forest trails, field paths, a section of the L3063 state road that is closed to traffic, and a bike path leading back towards Laubuseschbach. The event accommodates a wide range of participants, from dedicated runners to those participating with friends, colleagues, or club members. Teams require a minimum of eight runners, with entries spread across both the 5 km and 10 km distances. For team scoring, only the two fastest runners in each distance are considered. Awards are given for the largest participating group and for the team with the four fastest female runners.
Barbarossalauf Erlenbach
Barbarossalauf Erlenbach is a road running event in Erlenbach am Main, Bavaria, starting at Saint-Maurice-Platz near Elsenfelder Strasse. It typically takes place in October, beginning in the afternoon, and features several distances: a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, 2.5 km, and 1 km.
The event has been held annually since 2007, organized by Barbarossalauf Erlenbach a. Main e.V. The shorter distances and the children’s or school run cater to local runners and families. The half marathon, a recent addition, provides a longer road-race option. Registration is available via the organizer’s website.
Bottwartal Marathon
The Bottwartal Marathon is a running weekend held in mid-October in Baden-Wurttemberg's Bottwartal region. It began as a marathon but now includes multiple races. Initially featuring a marathon and a 10K, the event expanded to offer a half marathon, walking events, and a Run & Fun Day for children and students. The organization relies on local club support, with eight clubs from Beilstein, Gronau, Grossbottwar, Murr, Kleinbottwar, Oberstenfeld, Steinheim, and Winzerhausen collaborating through an ORGA team, each club managing its segment.
Werner Neumann of Oberstenfeld initiated the race to unite several Bottwartal clubs for a significant running event. The original start and finish were at the Bottwartalkellerei in Grossbottwar, enabling a course with northern and southern loops for the marathon and half marathon. The event later relocated to Steinheim, the "Urmenschenstadt," due to organizational and logistical considerations, with Gerhard Petermann succeeding Neumann as leader. The race has received the most popular marathon medal award six times and is one of Baden-Wurttemberg's largest running events.
Filderstadt-Halbmarathon
The Filderstadt-Halbmarathon is a road running event held in Filderstadt-Bernhausen, near Stuttgart, featuring a half marathon as its primary race. The event also offers a 10 km race, Bambini and schoolchildren's runs, and a team relay, catering to both local families and dedicated club runners. LG Filder organizes the event, with registration managed via the official website.
The half marathon spans 21.1 km along an all-asphalt course through Filderstadt's city center. The route is relatively flat with no significant elevation changes, allowing for consistent pacing. Recent years have seen increasing participation, with one reported race growing from just over 200 to more than 400 runners, and national-level athletes have achieved fast winning times.
22. Freundschaftslauf der LLG Wustweiler
The 22nd Freundschaftslauf der LLG Wustweiler is a group running, walking, and hiking event in Wustweiler, part of Illingen in Saarland. It takes place in November, with Seelbachhalle Wustweiler as the start and finish area, and Dorfwaldhalle also listed among the event locations. The primary long option is a 21 km trail with approximately 600 meters of elevation gain, making it more of a hilly forest run than a flat road race.
The format centers on guided groups instead of individual racing: experienced LLG Wustweiler runners lead the various running and walking groups. Participants can select shorter routes of about 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 km, while walkers and hikers have 5 and 6 km options on forest paths. The name Freundschaftslauf translates to “friendship run,” and the structure supports this concept: multiple pace and distance groups depart from the same local hall, allowing adults and youth to participate without committing to the full trail distance.
Barbarossa Berglauf
The Barbarossa Berglauf is a trail and mountain running event in Göppingen, Germany, scheduled for late November. Participants can select from 5 km, 10 km, or 21 km distances. The primary ascent directs runners up Hohenstaufen, the local mountain overlooking the Filstal valley. The half marathon serves as the day's main event, also available as a relay. A 5 km fitness run offers a shorter route for those less accustomed to mountain terrain.
The event's name originates from Emperor Barbarossa, whose ancestral castle was situated on Hohenstaufen. This historical connection is reflected in the race's terminology, with the half marathon humorously referred to as the “Emperor’s discipline” instead of the typical “queen event.” The program also features races for schoolchildren and toddlers, extending the participant pool beyond dedicated trail runners. The mountain setting and the vistas across the Filstal attract both spectators and runners from beyond Göppingen.
Nikolauslauf Tübingen
The itdesign-Nikolauslauf Tübingen is a half marathon held in Tübingen, Germany, on a Sunday near Saint Nicholas Day. Organized by Post-SV Tübingen, it has taken place annually since 1976, with one exception due to sudden winter weather. It is Germany's largest Nikolauslauf and one of the country's largest single-event half marathons.
The event began with 24 male runners and has since grown to several thousand finishers. The initial course spanned 21 kilometers through the Schönbuch Nature Park; the current half marathon follows the standard 21.0975-kilometer distance. A November test run offers participants a chance to run the original course without official timing, guided by pace runners for various target speeds, typically attracting around 800 participants.
