Locals keep running simple in Chios town, along the coast, and out toward Kampos when they want flatter base miles before the hills. Chios Running gives the island its club spine and keeps the Port2Port crowd moving. Port2Port 10K Run and Port2Port 5K Run work as clean anchor efforts when you want race pace without drama. Chios Hardstone Trail gives trail runners the rougher day out. Women’s Run, Oinousses Run, Chios Night Run, and Santa ChiosRunning race keep the calendar lively. Kids race 5km, so the scene feels properly local.

Local riders use Chios town, Kampos, Mastichochoria, and the villages because cycling gives us the chance to know different sides of Chios. Chios Brevet crosses the island for 200 kilometers, and experienced cyclists treat it like a real anchor event. Volissos Mountain Challenge runs 120 km and gains 3051 m, so the climbs bite hard in the north. Damala’s Tower covers 85 km and gains 2080 m, while Lagkada Hills Challenge covers 105 km and gains 2582 m. Mt. Provatas, Nea Moni, Agioi Pateres, Anavatos, Retsinadika, mt. Pelinaio, and Mastichochoria trail give mountain bikers singletrack days and cyclocross legs.

Spring and autumn are the best months for both sports because the island lets you stack Z2, intervals, long runs, and gran fondo prep without the hottest summer edge. Summer temperatures reach 30°C, and steady breezes average 5 m/s from the north or southwest, so locals start early and keep coastal sessions sharp. January temperatures drop to 10°C, and the same steady breezes keep winter honest rather than dead. The north stays mountainous, the south feels arid, and the ridge running the island keeps route choice important when winter hits.
