Maratona Tunes XCM OPEN is a Sunday-morning mountain bike marathon held at the Polidesportivo in Tunes, Faro district, Portugal. The event lists an open half-marathon category and a separate open half-marathon category for e-bikes. APedalar manages the listing on a platform that has organized cycling events since 2012. The course details are limited, but the entry list indicates a small regional field rather than a large festival race, with 48 riders confirmed: 37 in the regular half marathon and 11 on e-bikes. The start list includes women's e-bike and masters entries. Local or Algarve-linked teams such as Furões Albufeira, Os Leões de Olhão, and Centro Ciclismo de Portimão are participating. The entry fee covers soup, a bifana, and a drink, providing a traditional Portuguese post-ride meal.
TransAlgibre is a 60 km cycling event based in Loulé, Faro district, Portugal, starting at Parque Municipal de Loulé. APedalar lists it for a Wednesday morning in June, with a 12 euro entry fee due about a week before the event. Club BTT Terra de Loulé is the organizing club. The public entry list shows one course, TransAlgibre 60km, and a small field: 11 registrations, 3 confirmed and paid. Riders are from Media Club Pro Cycling, Padernense Clube, Fura Pastos BTT, and BTT Loulé/elevis, suggesting a local Algarve bike event for club riders rather than a large mass race. APedalar, the platform listing the event, has worked with events since 2012.
Running: Faro locals keep running simple and coastal. Ria Formosa Natural Park gives you flat 5-15 km runs near Faro and Olhão, with boardwalks, dirt paths, salt marshes, barrier islands, and tidal inlets. The waterfront path toward the marina works when the city centre feels short on routes. The Ecovia do Algarve runs 74 km with 50 m of gain. The full route covers 93 km with 128 m of gain. H2O keeps the local running scene visible. Demi-marathon de Faro, Meia Maratona de Faro, Algarve Night Run, MamaMaratona, and H2's Half Marathon are the anchor races.
Cycling: Faro riders use the coast for easy spins and the inland roads for work. 5 hours. You've got a 1 km climb with 611 m of elevation. The 3 km climb has 770 m of elevation when you want proper intervals. Serra de Monchique, Foia, and Picota hold the bigger climbs. H2O sits in the endurance scene. Maratona Tunes XCM OPEN, TransAlgibre 2026, and 3rd Triathlon of Louletano anchor the calendar.
Season: The Algarve winter makes Faro easy to trust for both sports. The region gets over 300 sunny days per year, and winter highs usually sit at 15-18°C, so locals stack base miles, long rides, and steady Z2 without much drama. Summer highs usually reach 29-32°C, so the city centre starts early, the waterfront gets busy, and Ilha de Faro becomes a better finish than a midpoint. Runners stay close to Ria Formosa for flatter efforts, while riders move inland when they want hills or west when they want gravel that is not too technical but full of variety.
