Hyundai Lisbon Half Marathon

The Hyundai Lisbon Half Marathon begins on the Vasco da Gama Bridge, a detail distinguishing it from most city half marathons. This 21.097 km road race in Lisbon, Portugal, has been held annually in October since 2000, with Hyundai as the title sponsor. The race occurs during the same weekend as the EDP Marathon of Lisbon, forming part of a larger running event rather than being a standalone race. Participation is open to individuals aged 18 and over, with a cap of 11,000 runners and a three-hour time limit. The course proceeds from the bridge into Lisbon, concluding at Praça do Comércio, adjacent to the Tagus River. It attracts both elite international athletes and thousands of recreational participants, and it holds a World Athletics Elite Label. A faster course was implemented in 2010, and the race's finish times have frequently been swift: Titus Ekiru holds the men's course record at 1:00:12, and Peres Jepchirchir's 1:06:54 is the women's record. Mary Keitany contributed to the race's faster period by setting a new women's course record in consecutive years, and Silas Sang achieved a notable record of consistency with three men's wins.

8th GP OF THE ARMY SERGEANT CLUB

The 8th GP of the Army Sergeant Club is a free running event held at the CEFA Track in Alfeite, Almada, south of Lisbon. It takes place in early June as part of the Almada Athletics Trophy Mário Pinto Claro series. Category races begin on the track in the morning, followed by a 7.1 km road race later in the program. The Clube do Sargento da Armada organizes the event, with support from Almada City Council and the Laranjeiro Feijó Parish Council. Participants and coaches enter via Portão da Romeira. An updated Citizen Card is required, contributing to a more controlled, military-site atmosphere compared to a standard open street event. Bibs can be collected on race morning at the Secretariat Area.

About cycling & running in Almada

Almada Training Notes

Running: Locals run Almada on urban pavement, coastal edges, and the green work inside parque da paz. The city covers 94 km and gains 89 m, so it works for easy Z2 or short intervals. The city covers 16 km and gains 243 m when runners want a full-distance day. The river loop covers 14 km and climbs 143 m. The waterfront route covers 02 km and climbs 49 m. CEFA Track anchors sharper sessions, and the Half Marathon of Almada, Meia Maratona de Almada, and Mimosa Pela Vida keep the calendar honest.

Cycling: Cyclists start in Almada when they want proper gravel without making a big production of it. The route runs 25 km with +328 m elevation gain, so it fits base miles, tempo blocks, or a long Saturday spin. 2 km. The climbing sits in that steady +328 m of rolling work, not one named mountain. The brief gives no named cycling club or cycling race, so riders treat the gravel loop as the anchor ride.

Season: Almada rides and runs like a coastal place, with the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Tagus River to the north. The brief does not name exact best months, so locals keep the season simple and read the day. Summer means beach-side mileage around Costa da Caparica, steady Z2, and early starts when the sun is high. Winter changes the rhythm more than the map. Runners stay on urban pavement around Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal e Cacilhas, and Laranjeiro e Feijó. Cyclists keep gravel in play and use the same Almada start when the weather gives a clear window.
