Marcha BTT Tronchaberezos is a mountain bike ride taking place in Salduero, Soria province, Spain. The exact date is unconfirmed; riders can register interest to receive notification once organizers set it. The event is non-competitive, suitable for those seeking a marked BTT challenge without the pressure of racing for a position. Two route options are available: a 45 km ride featuring 1200 m of elevation gain, and a 28 km route with 580 m of climbing. Results and classifications are pending, aligning with the event's status as an upcoming listing on the Soria calendar. It complements other BTT events in the region, offering mountain bikers another destination for off-road riding.
The BTT Memorial Iván Herrero is a 48-kilometer mountain-bike race held in Covaleda, Soria province, Spain, within the Sierra de Urbión. Scheduled for June, it is part of a larger BTT/MTB circuit and limits participation to 200 riders. This is not a road ride with some dirt; only 2% of the route is asphalt, with the majority on trails and open cross-country terrain. Participants will climb 1,352 meters and descend the same amount, reaching an elevation of 1,492 meters. The course winds through pine and oak forests, marked with flagging tape. Volunteers equipped with radios are stationed along the circuit for emergencies. Support includes two liquid aid stations, one solid aid station, chip timing, a cloakroom, showers, and a meal at the finish. The event maintains a local, community atmosphere with a children’s race, awards for winners, a prize raffle, and a barbecue for participants. It also supports a cause through promotion and a portion of the proceeds, and is organized by local Covaleda groups and clubs associated with the Urbión area.
Running: Locals keep the easy miles close to the Duero, especially on the Senda del Duero from Puente de Piedra to Ermita de San Saturio. The San Saturio stretch gives you the river below and the cliffs above, and it feels like one of Spain’s best city runs. The San Saturio stretch is 5 km with no gain. Valonsadero is the trail spot, with 2,800 hectares of encinares, praderas, forest tracks, and singletrack. Icnitas Runners gives the scene a name, and Media Maratón Abel Antón, Carrera Popular Soria-Valonsadero, Cross Internacional de Soria, and Cebollera Trail anchor the calendar.
Cycling: Locals ride out because Soria opens fast once you leave the city. The minor roads are ideal for road cycling, and the surface is good enough for steady Z2, base miles, or a long gran fondo day. The route covers 59 km with 4,570 metres of climbing. The Santander-Mediterranean greenway keeps things calmer to the west. CD Numancia sits in the local club picture, while La Histórica, Marcha BTT Tronchaberezos, 7 Muros de Pozalmuro, and BTT San Leonardo Bike Race give riders targets. The climbs sit toward Sierra de Urbión, Laguna Negra de Urbión, and the canyon roads near Wolves River Canyon.
Season: Soria sits high at about 1,065 metres, so every run and ride carries a bit of altitude in the legs. Spring is the wettest season, but locals still use it well for intervals, trail blocks, and longer rides before the heat settles in. Summer stays dry and warm, with July around 22 °C, though temperatures above 30 °C are not rare. The city centre feels manageable for early runs, and Valonsadero stays useful when you want shade, dirt, and softer footing. Winter changes the rhythm hard, because January averages 4 °C and the province gets about 83 frost days each year. Locals keep running, but cyclists pick windows carefully and save big mountain days for better light.
