The River Wyre 4 Mile Run is a new four-mile race in Stanah, Lancashire, starting at 11:00am from River Wyre Country Park within the Wyre Estuary Country Park. It is a short road-and-path run, with a point-to-point route from the country park toward Skipool Boat & Yacht Club. The course uses newly completed footpaths and stays firm underfoot, with concrete and tarmac forming the surface. A light grit covering is added for safer footing when conditions are wet, suiting runners who want a compact, straightforward race without rough trail terrain. Charity fundraising is part of the setup, with runners able to raise money through GoFundMe.
Running: Locals run the prom because the landmarks keep your head straight. The prom is 07 km and climbs +12 m, so it is clean Z2 work when the wind behaves. The full prom loop is 99 km and gains +5 m, so it suits steady base miles. Stanley Park adds a green reset round the boating lake. Fylde Coast Runners put on road, trail, and ultra events from 5Ks to ultras. Blackpool Wyre and Fylde Athletic Club covers beginners through international level. Blackpool Festival of Running, Great North West Half Marathon, Tower to Castle Ultra, and Blackpool Marathon anchor the calendar.
Cycling: Locals ride north from Blackpool's North Pier when they want simple miles with sea on one side. The route covers 7 km to Fleetwood docks, uses traffic-free promenades, and sits on National Cycle Network path 62. The surface stays asphalt, so intervals and easy spins both work. Cleveleys makes the natural cafe stop. Another loop runs 1 miles from the Solaris Centre, past Lytham St Annes, then inland through Wrea Green, Moss Side, and Higher Ballam. The climbs are not real climbs here, so locals treat wind, higher promenade levels, and inland drags like hill work.
Season: April belongs to Blackpool Marathon legs, and July and August carry the summer 5K, 10K, colour, and night-run buzz. Summer stays mostly cool and overcast, but locals still remember days when it was chuffing warm and the heat got to me a bit. The seafront can feel kind on Z2 days, then the head wind hit me and the session turns honest. Winter brings cool air, wind, and rain, so runners stick to familiar prom landmarks and Stanley Park loops. Cyclists keep the traffic-free coast for steady base miles and save the Lytham Loop for clearer days.
