Poole Runners Summer Series 1 begins a six-race set of summer evening events at Upton Country Park in Poole. The main race is a 5K, with junior races earlier in the evening, catering to both adult runners and younger athletes. The juniors start at 6:45pm, and the main 5K follows at 7:15pm. The meeting point is Upton Country Park, BH17 7BJ. The race starts and finishes in front of the park's main house, providing a straightforward setup. Poole Runners organise the series, with Mike Towner listed as organiser. Results are kept across multiple editions, allowing returning runners to track progress over successive summers. The event listing also includes a GoFundMe fundraising option for runners who wish to connect their entry with a cause.
Six running events are scheduled. Each includes a juniors' race at 6:45 PM and an adults' race at 7:15 PM. These races mirror last year's summer series.
Running: Poole runners keep it simple with Poole Park, Whitecliff Park, Holes Bay and the Quay. Poole Quay works well when you want flat Z2 and nice water views. The path runs 3 miles one-way from the Quay on paved, dedicated surface. 3 miles. Poole Runners meet most days, with Wednesdays at Broadstone Sports Centre and long runs on Sundays. Poole AC makes road running the heart of the club. Purbeck Marathon, Clarendon, Round The Lakes 10K and Race For Life Poole give the calendar its anchor events.
Cycling: Poole riders get cycle paths by the sea and plenty of base miles. Poole has over 50 miles of cycle network, and 28 miles run away from traffic. Route 2 rolls along the seafront promenade to Bournemouth. Castleman Trailway starts at Upton Country Park and reaches Wimborne on an approximately 9-mile return trip. Bourne Valley Greenway links Canford Heath to Bournemouth seafront on an approximately 8-mile return trip. Classic Gravel Harbour Loop brings forest graded gravel trails, bridleways and singletrack trails around Poole Harbour. Creech/Knowle Hill brings the steep work, while East Hill, Purbeck Hills, White Sheet Hill and Okeford Beacon add climbing options. Poole Grupetto CC runs Wednesday evening and Sunday morning rides from 30 to 60 miles. Jurassic Coast 100 sits as the big anchor event.
Season: July and August suit Poole best, with warm rides, steady runs and sea air that makes early starts feel easy. Summer temperatures average 15°C to 21°C, and boats regularly depart from the quay, so the whole harbour feels busy in a good way. Locals use summer for off-road bits, longer Z2, intervals on flatter paths and club nights that spill toward the coast. Winter changes the kit and the tempo. Winter temperatures average 2°C to 8°C, and February sea temperatures sit at 8°C. Poole Park, Holes Bay and the Ashdown track stay useful when you want clean footing and controlled sessions.
