North Oaks & Middendorf's Manchac Run
SAT NOV 7
The North Oaks & Middendorf's Manchac Run begins and ends at Middendorf's Seafood Restaurant, located on U.S. Highway 51 in the Manchac/Akers area of Louisiana. This autumn road race offers three distances: 5K, 10K, and 10 miles, suitable for both casual runners and those seeking a longer challenge. The race, a collaboration between North Oaks and Middendorf's, revives a local running event with strong ties to the restaurant. The course follows the Manchac area around Highway 51, with aid stations provided. Participants receive finisher medallions and a catfish plate, offering a distinct Louisiana reward at the finish. Proceeds support the North Oaks Foundation.
Cajun Country Run (1/2 Marathon, 10k, 5k & Fun Run)
SAT DEC 19
The Cajun Country Run is a December race series in Lafayette, Louisiana, offering both road and trail options on the same day. The road events include a USATF-certified half marathon, a USATF-certified 10K, and a 5K. The trail events feature a 10K and a 5K. A 1-mile fun run is also available, making the event suitable for half marathoners, trail runners, casual 5K participants, and families. The half marathon follows a single-loop road course and is noted as Acadiana's oldest half marathon. The event began in 2002 and has benefited TRAIL's efforts at the Acadiana Park & Nature Station since 2010. Participants can select either pavement or trails. Strong finishers receive one of the more distinctive awards in local racing: an alligator head.

Locals run the University Lakes Trail when they want steady base miles along a cypress-dotted lake. The Levee Path runs 31 miles from the downtown promenade to Farr Park with separate lanes for bikes and walkers/joggers. 5 to 2 miles. Independence Community Park Trail gives you about 2 shaded paved miles. Club South Runners, Happy's Running Club, Varsity Sports, Girls on the Run, and Black Girls Run keep the week social. The Louisiana Marathon, Happy's 5000 and Beer Mile, Tiger 10K, and Mardi Gras Mambo 10K/15K anchor the calendar.

Locals ride the Mississippi River Levee Bike Path for Z2 and cruising along the levee with river views. The Baton Rouge Mississippi River Levee Bike Path runs 13 miles from Downtown Baton Rouge past Skip Bertman Drive at LSU and Farr Park Equestrian Center to L'Auberge Casino and Hotel. The path gives cyclists a 15-foot-wide setup with separate lanes for walkers/joggers. LSU Lakes Loop starts from Milford Wampold Memorial Park when you want an easier spin. BRAMBA handles the dirt side around Hooper Road Park and Comite River Park singletrack. Baton Rouge Bike Club, Front Yard Bikes, and Downtown East Social Ride keep the group rides moving. Visite de Broussard is the bike name to know. Baton Rouge keeps climbs short, with bluffs instead of hills.

7 °C. Winter temps drop to 3 °C, so locals start early, keep intervals honest, and save ego for the last mile. The route has 288 m of elevation, so heat management matters more than climbing legs. Winter changes the rhythm in a good way, with more comfortable Z2, longer lake loops, and steadier levee miles. Snow stays rare, but it has happened in consecutive years. The Louisiana Marathon season makes winter feel like the anchor event stretch for runners.
