The Sweat Now, Wine Later Adventure Race begins on Nimishillen Creek in Canton, Ohio, ending at Gervasi Vineyard. This short race has two legs: a 1.5-mile kayak from Martindale Park to the Middlebranch Trailhead at Spangler Avenue NE, followed by a 2.5-mile run or walk to the vineyard. Racers select a wave start time, arriving for their own check-in and bus assignment instead of a mass launch. The organizers supply the kayak, paddle, and life jacket; personal kayaks are not permitted. Waves depart about a minute apart, keeping the creek section flowing and reducing water congestion. The finish includes what the name suggests: each participant receives a glass of wine or a strawberry sage lemonade, along with snacks, water, a tech shirt, and a finisher medal. The race proceeds in various weather conditions, though unsafe water levels may result in a trail run-only format. Participants must be 12 years or older.
The Hospital Heroes Against Hunger 5K is a charity run and walk in Canton, Ohio, starting at Stadium Park Drive Northwest and Harrison Avenue NW. The main 5K begins in the morning, offering separate entries for adults and students. A 1 Mile Fun Walk follows shortly after for those seeking a shorter route. The race funds Cleveland Clinic Mercy Mission Outreach’s Food Insecurity Program. Entry fees and donations enable twice-monthly outreach in Canton neighborhoods. Volunteers distribute prepared meals and health information to residents facing food insecurity, including homeless individuals and children. The event also features overall and age-group awards, a finisher medal, and a race shirt for participants.
Running: Locals run Canton-Massillon off a small, steady race scene and a pile of short routes. Stadium Park works well for everyday miles, and Martindale Park gives you an easy event hub. The first route runs 16 km and climbs +121 m, so it is the clean pick when Z2 needs some bite. The second route runs 70 km and climbs +101 m, so intervals feel honest fast. The local calendar carries the anchor feel with Hospital Heroes Against Hunger 5K, Franksgiving Day 5K, Spirit of the Season / Frosty Frolic, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Race Series.
Cycling: Stark County Bicycle Club anchors the riding scene from Canton. SCBC formed in 1968, has 280 members, schedules over 700 rides every year, and logged nearly a quarter of a million miles in 2024. The club is mainly on-road, but trail and towpath rides still show up. The trail runs 5 miles of crushed limestone from Deerfield Ave N to Skyland Ave NW. 70 km. Locals use those for base miles, punchy efforts, and gran fondo legs.
Season: May, June, and July carry the loudest race rhythm around Canton-Massillon. Stadium Park, Centennial Plaza, North Canton YMCA, Gervasi Vineyard, Kent State University - Stark Campus, and Fry Family Park all show up on the summer run calendar. The 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Race Series spans Spring and Summer, and Half Marathon Weekend adds a three-person relay. SCBC keeps the wheels turning too, with members encouraged to ride through all all four seasons in northeast Ohio. Winter shifts both sports toward steadier Z2, shorter loops, and the December Spirit of the Season / Frosty Frolic dates on December 19th and December 13th.
