Recurring 5K races near Fort Wayne

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

20th Annual Run for Riley 5 Mile & 5K
SUN OCT 4
Run for Riley is a Fort Wayne race organized by the Fort Wayne Running Club to support Riley Children's Hospital. Participants can choose a chip-timed 5-mile race or a 5K, suitable for those aiming for a personal best and those preferring a shorter community run. Both races begin at Maple Creek Middle School, proceed along the paved Fort Wayne Greenway trails, and then diverge onto separate courses for the 5-mile and 5K. All participants conclude on the school track. The event continues in the school cafeteria, featuring a silent auction, 5-mile awards, treats, and snacks.
Oktoberfest 5k
SAT OCT 10
The Oktoberfest 5K is a chip-timed 5K Bier Run held in conjunction with Cleveland Oktoberfest at the fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio. A non-timed one-mile walk begins at 11:00 a.m. It is an annual Oktoberfest tradition managed by Hermes Sports. Runners enter through the Eastland Road gate for race access and festival admission. The day is structured around the festival as much as the run. Participants show their bib for free Cleveland Oktoberfest admission. Adults receive a drink ticket, and pre-registered runners get a Great Lakes 5K Bier Run shirt. Dressing in authentic German costume earns a friend an extra free admission. 5K awards are given to the top overall men and women, plus age-group finishers. Adult age-group winners receive pint glasses, and younger winners receive medals.
The Community Health Clinic 5k: Walk for Rare, Run for Hope
SAT OCT 10
The Community Health Clinic 5k: Walk for Rare, Run for Hope begins and ends at the clinic on East North Street in Shipshewana, Indiana, adjacent to the Pumpkinvine Trail and the Cove youth center. The primary event is a 5k run or walk along an out-and-back course, featuring a clock for participants who wish to monitor their own times. The morning also features a Kids Big Wheel Race for ages 3 to 7, with big wheels supplied. All funds raised support patient care at the Community Health Clinic, centering the event on a local health-care cause instead of a large race production. Participants receive a water station and complimentary snacks, with bake sale items available by donation. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in the 5k. Registration is open on the day of the event, though shirts cannot be guaranteed for those who sign up late. Parking is available in the clinic lot, with additional space across the street by the dog park.
Scouting's Meecheway 5K Trail Run - COLOR RUN VOL. 3 2026
SAT OCT 10
Scouting's Meecheway 5K Trail Run - COLOR RUN VOL. 3 is a 5K trail race held in October in Defiance, Ohio, beginning at 2180 Ginter Road. This event supports the Scouting movement and is presented as a color run, distinct from a standard road 5K. The course details are minimal, described as a five-kilometer trail run within Defiance. The Black Swamp Area Council, headquartered in Findlay, is the organizing body. Consequently, the participants are expected to primarily consist of Scouts, families, volunteers, and local runners, rather than a large field of elite competitors.
Heartline Donut Dash Walk/Run for Life 5k
SAT OCT 10
The Heartline Donut Dash Walk/Run for Life is a community 5K in Warsaw, Indiana, held in October starting at the Health Services Pavilion on Provident Drive. Participants cover 5 kilometers, with packet pickup in the morning and the race beginning at 10:00 am. The event benefits the Heartline Pregnancy Center, with all net funds supporting its free services and programs for clients. The route follows the Lake City Greenway and finishes back at the Health Services Pavilion start area. All finishers receive a medal, and winner’s medals are awarded by gender and age group. Fundraising is integrated into the race: participants can donate during registration, solicit donations as individuals, or form or join a team. The fundraising goal is $30,000, with registration refunds offered to fundraisers who reach $200.
Hot Cider Hustle - Fort Wayne Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
SUN OCT 11
The Fort Wayne Hot Cider Hustle offers a half marathon, 10K, and 5K race series each fall, with all events beginning in the morning. The 5K includes a run/walk option, an untimed walk option, and an affordable kids’ fun division, making the day suitable for more than just competitive runners. The event's route is not specified, but the structure is evident: multiple distances utilize the same race period. Virtual 10K and 5K options are available for those unable to attend in person. All finishers receive a mug. Participants also get a race shirt, hot cider, and a caramel apple. Photos are shared using #HotCiderHustle.
Pennville Pumpkin Festival 5k Run/Walk
SAT OCT 17
The Pennville Pumpkin Festival 5K Run/Walk begins and ends at Pennville Park on East North Street in Pennville, Indiana. This autumn community 5K is connected to the town’s pumpkin festival, with runners and walkers covering the same distance. The event accommodates participants of all paces, including runners, joggers, and walkers, and entry fees contribute to the festival's funding. The course features gently rolling terrain, passing through town before extending out and back on country roads. A water station is located at the turnaround point. Following the race, the festival continues with vendors, music, food, crafts, and family entertainment, positioning the run as part of a larger local event rather than a standalone race.
Paws and Run 5K
SUN OCT 18
26th Annual River City Rat Race
SUN OCT 18
The River City Rat Race is a fall 10K and 5K run/walk in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. Both distances begin on East Main Street and conclude at the Old Fort. The race features a downtown course that guides participants through autumn park areas and along the riverfront, with proceeds benefiting the Great Fort Wayne Central YMCA. The 10K route utilizes the riverfront paths and serves as a Fort Wayne Run Club points race. The 5K offers a shorter path through the downtown parks for runners and walkers. The event is USATF sanctioned, includes a race shirt and finisher medal for participants, and recognizes Masters and age-group winners from young children to runners in their nineties.
Campus United 5k Run
SAT OCT 24
Campus United 5K is a 5k run/walk on the Fort Wayne campus shared by Purdue University Fort Wayne and Indiana University Fort Wayne. The race begins in the morning at the Mastodon statue located between Helmke Library and Walb Student Union, with check-in outside Walb before the start. The event unites the two universities to raise funds for The FRIENDS of the University Pantry at Purdue Fort Wayne, which provides support to students outside of their academic work. On race day, packet pickup and registration will both be managed at the grey check-in tents, allowing runners and walkers to sign up or collect their materials on site.
The Howl-O-Ween 5k Hustle
SAT OCT 31
The Howl-O-Ween 5K Hustle is a Halloween-themed 5K where families can run or walk with their dogs. Costumes are encouraged, so the field includes people and pets dressed for Halloween rather than a standard road-race crowd. The event is award-winning and leans into its community feel, with volunteers and event photographers called out as part of the day. Past race galleries are shared afterward, and photo purchases from Young Pups Photography support ARLNH.
Huntington Veterans Day 5K
SAT NOV 7
The Huntington Veterans Day 5K begins at the Indiana National Guard in Huntington, Indiana, as part of a local Veterans Day event that includes running, walking, and riding. The primary event is a chip-timed 5K. A 1-mile fun walk is available for families, and an approximately 17-mile bike ride is offered for cyclists; helmets are mandatory for the ride. This event serves the community with a specific local purpose: all proceeds benefit veterans memorials in Huntington County. The organizing group is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3). Supported memorials include the Memorial Mile at Memorial Park. Participants can choose to race, walk, ride, donate, or volunteer, accommodating both those seeking a timed result and residents wishing to support local veterans.

About 5K races in Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne Training Notes

Fort Wayne hosts 56 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals build base miles on the Rivergreenway, Towpath Trail, and loops through Foster Park, Fox Island, and Promenade Park. Foster Park gives you paved and wooded trails attached to the Rivergreenway. Fox Island packs 7 miles of marked trails through a marsh, beach, forests, and fields. The Rivergreenway runs 5 miles and stays flat, paved, easy, and clean. Fort Wayne Track Club, Fort Wayne Running Club, Three Rivers Running Company, and Fleet Feet keep the calendar moving. m. The Big Run 5K, Run Wild 5K, Turkey Trot 5K, and Fantasy of Lights 5K feel like anchor races.

Locals ride the Rivergreenway, Towpath Trail, Aboite Trails, Pufferbelly Trail, Salomon Farm Loop, and Franke Park Trails. The Rivergreenway runs 25 miles alongside the St. Joseph, St. Marys, and Maumee Rivers and connects 15 city parks. The Towpath Trail links the Rivergreenway with the Aboite Trail, and Aboite gives southwest riders 18 miles of trail access. Three Rivers Velo Sport owns the group-ride scene, with meetings on the first Thursday at 7:00 pm at Allen County Public Library. The Monday Covington B Ride covers 26-32 miles at 18-19 mph. The west and southwest side hold the hilly course work, while Franke Park gives mountain bikers 10 miles of singletrack. Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle is the anchor event.

Spring, summer, and fall are the best months because locals can stack Z2, intervals, trail miles, and weeknight rides without overthinking gear. Summers feel hot, humid, and wet, so Trek the Trails starts at 6:00 pm every other Tuesday, averages 8-9 miles, and gets canceled if the National Weather Service issues a Heat Advisory. Fort Wayne’s parks make summer training simple, with 86 public parks and 3,000 acres in the system. Winter changes the rhythm for both sports. Winters stay cold with moderate snowfall, and the city averages 30 inches of snow per year. Lake-effect snow usually shows up as light flurries, so runners keep the streak alive and riders move to shorter routes or indoor work.
