Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Monster Miles Challenge
THU OCT 1
The Monster Miles Challenge is a month-long virtual mileage contest. While based in Greensboro, North Carolina, participants can log miles from anywhere in the USA. During October, runners and walkers record as many miles as they can through their individual portals. Walking, jogging, and running all count toward the total. There is no fixed course; participants can cover their miles alone or with a friend wherever they train. Awards go to the top three female, male, and non-binary participants. The first edition also includes a pizza party after the challenge plus a donation of 20 percent of proceeds to a charity still to be chosen.
Carrboro 5K/10K
SAT OCT 3
The Carrboro 5K/10K offers runners a choice between a 6.2-mile 10K and a 3.1-mile 5K. Both races begin at 8 a.m. from McDougle Middle School in Carrboro, North Carolina. The 5K, a more recent addition, has a participant limit of 300 runners. The entry fee for either distance is $35. Both races traverse Carrboro neighborhoods before concluding on the McDougle track. This event is part of Le Tour de Carrboro, a three-race series benefiting Carrboro Area Charities. Participants in the series must select either the 5K or the 10K for this particular race, not both.
Weekday Preschool 5K
SAT OCT 3
High Point Brat Trot 5k
SAT OCT 3
The High Point Brat Trot 5K is an Oktoberfest-themed run starting and ending at Dive Bar High Point. It accommodates runners aiming for a fast 5K and those who prefer to jog or walk in costume with friends; dirndls, lederhosen, alpine hats, suspenders, braids, and other Oktoberfest attire are encouraged. The race supports A Shared Blessing Food Pantry through monetary donations and food collections. Participants receive an official Oktoberfest Brat Trot T-shirt, a custom medal, complimentary beer, and a mini brat upon finishing. Entry also includes access to the post-race Oktoberfest Block Party, featuring drinks, music, and games.
Maddie's Miles
SAT OCT 3
9th Annual Historic Hillsborough Half Marathon and 5K - 2026
SUN OCT 4
The Historic Hillsborough Half Marathon and 5K begins at the Eno River Farmers Market in downtown Hillsborough, North Carolina, offering participants a choice between 21.1 kilometers and 5 kilometers. This fall road race, organized by the Hillsborough Running Club, features routes that wind through the town’s historic streets, along river paths, and past notable landmarks. The half marathon route crosses "over the river and through the woods," continues along the Riverwalk greenway beside the Eno River, and incorporates a section of the Occoneechee Speedway Trail. Participants will see locations like the Old Orange County Courthouse, with the course highlighting Hillsborough’s three centuries of architectural history. The town also fosters a local running community, supporting events such as Little River Trail runs, the Got GRIT 5K, and races at Camp Chestnut Ridge.
Cannonball Running Festival - Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
FRI OCT 16
The Cannonball Running Festival begins and ends in Country Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Races utilize the A & Y Greenway and park roads. This event spans a Friday and Saturday, offering a marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K run/walk, Kids Dash, a virtual option, and the Double Barrel Challenge for participants completing two races. The Double Barrel Challenge links the Friday night 5K with a Saturday race, with distinct options for marathon, half marathon, and 10K participants. The event fosters a post-race gathering atmosphere: local craft breweries serve runners and spectators on Saturday, race registration includes two craft brews, and proceeds from spectator beer sales benefit Brenner Children's.
Rock the Block 2025
SAT OCT 17
Rock the Block is a community race event in Johnson County, Indiana, featuring a timed 10K, a family-friendly 5K walk/run, and a free Kids Run. It accommodates various participants: runners can compete in the 10K, families can enjoy a relaxed pace in the 5K, and children have their own cost-free event. The day also offers food, music, vendors, awards, and giveaways, functioning as a local gathering alongside the race. Entry fees and support benefit organizations serving youth and families in Johnson County, and the event has raised significant funds for charity throughout its history. Sponsors and volunteers are essential in transforming the race into a fundraiser for the local community.
Rootrock Trail Run - 5K/10K/Half Marathon
SAT OCT 17
Rootrock lives up to its name: the trail run sends 5K, 10K, and half marathon runners onto single-track paths covered in roots and rocks at Briar Chapel, south of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It takes place on a mid-fall morning and utilizes the trail network within a 900-acre green community, featuring forested paths designed for hiking and mountain biking. Great Meadow Park is the start and finish area. Its lawn, stage, and pavilion provide a central gathering point for the race. This run is the first event of the Rootrock Trail Races and is paired with the Rootrock Mountain Bike Race; athletes registering for both receive a discount and a special award. Following the run, the event offers food, music, a kids' treasure race, and an awards ceremony with giveaways.
Ardmore RAH! 10K, 5K, Fun Run and Food Drive
SAT OCT 17
Ardmore RAH! is a neighborhood race and food drive held in Ardmore, a historic area of Winston-Salem. The event features a 10K, 5K, and Fun Run, with virtual options for each distance. RAH stands for Run Against Hunger, indicating the event's purpose alongside the running itself. The in-person races attract hundreds of runners and thousands of spectators to Ardmore. Entry fees and food donations benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, supporting food-insecure families and children in the region. The event is designed as a community gathering, offering short-distance races for casual runners and families, as well as a 10K for those seeking a longer challenge.
Haunted 5K, 10K, 13.1M & 26.2M at Winston-Salem, NC (42)
SAT OCT 17
This Halloween-themed race in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, begins at 8:00 AM, offering participants four distance options: 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. The event focuses on road running, with the day incorporating a best costume award in addition to standard race awards. All participants must register via RunSignup prior to race day, as no on-site registration will be available. Packet pickup is efficient, commencing 30 minutes before the start and concluding 10 minutes before the race begins. The courses feature repeating out-and-back segments. The 5K consists of one out-and-back, the 10K has two, the half marathon includes four, and the marathon comprises eight. This structure presents a mental loop challenge for the longer races, in addition to the physical distance. All distances share a 6-hour course time limit, requiring steady pacing for marathoners. Finishers will receive medals, with shirts and gear available for purchase. Participants also accumulate series points via US Road Running.
Hawg Run
SAT OCT 24
The Hawg Run is a 5K starting at the YMCA on W. 3rd Avenue, held during Barbecue Month as part of the Barbecue Festival. It is structured around a local festival day, not a separate race weekend, and includes a non-competitive Fun Run/Walk for a family-friendly option. The route goes through local neighborhoods to Grimes Park before returning to the YMCA. Entry fees fund scholarships for after-school programs, summer camp, youth sports, swim lessons, and YMCA memberships for local children and families. The race has helped mark long-running editions of the Barbecue Festival, integrating the run into that local tradition.

About 5K races in Greensboro-High Point

Greensboro-High Point Training Ground

Greensboro-High Point hosts 64 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Greensboro runners put a lot of base miles on the Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway and the Bicentennial Greenway. 2 paved miles before it connects to the High Point Greenway. You can ride a 25-mile paved loop, and High Point Athletic Park gives locals a public quarter-mile track for intervals. High Point Athletic Club, Brown Truck Brewery Badass Run Club, Goofy Foot Taproom Run Club, High Point Pub Runners, and Dram & Draught keep the week social. Elm Street Athletic Festival and Cannonball Running Festival anchor the calendar.

Local riders use the Greensboro High Point Winston Salem Greenway Loop when they want a proper long day. The loop is 9 km and gains 1,615 m, so it works for Z2, tempo, or gran fondo legs. The Triad Ride List keeps road and mountain bike rides moving around Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, and Burlington. Bicentennial Greenway, High Point Greenway, and Salem Lake Trail cover paved path, packed dirt, and gravel. The area has 1 mile of singletrack. Big Bertha sits between Jamestown Park and Gibson Park, and the A&Y adds rolling hills and one big hill.

Most of the trails are shaded, which helps in the summer heat. Salem Lake Trail keeps riders and runners under trees for a 7-mile dirt and gravel loop. The High Point Greenway moves through hardwood and pine forests, parks, and residential areas, so steady base miles stay easy to stitch together. Rainy winter days change the feel because rainy days lead to slick red clay on trails. Paved choices like the A&Y, Bicentennial Greenway, Battleground Military Park, and the High Point Athletic Park track stay useful when singletrack and dirt get messy.
