WPI Running Club meets most days of the week for group runs around Worcester, and the club usually has 15 to 40 runners out from more than 80 active members. Indian Lake gives you the Shore Dr, Norton Dr, West Boylston St, Grove St, Holden St, Shore Dr 5K loop. The loop is a 5K route that gains 43 m. The anchor races include Canal Diggers 5K, Woo Jingle 5K, Guinness Celtic 5K, Worcester Firefighters 6K, and Barefoot Half Marathon.
Locals ride Worcester for mixed terrain, base miles, and an Abby Normal amount of climbing. AMC Worcester Cycling runs day rides of various lengths, paved rides, gravel rides, multi-day touring rides, bikepacking trips, and spring Touring and Bikepacking seminar days. The Mass Central Rail Trail gives riders a 70 km mostly unpaved loop from Rutland to Templeton. The loop is 6 km and gains 1,590 m around Barre. The climbs sit around Wachusett Reservoir, Barre, Berlin, Northboro, Boylston, West Boylston, Holden, Rutland, and Sterling.
Summer brings hot, humid training, with July sitting around 22°C and plenty of days that work best for early Z2 before the city wakes up. Locals keep intervals close to Institute Park, Greenhill Park, Indian Lake, and Lake Quinsigamond when the air gets thick. Winter changes both sports fast, because January averages around -5°C and snow usually falls from the second half of November into early April. Runners keep using road loops and rail trails when they can, while riders shift toward gravel windows, cyclocross legs, and the trainer when Worcester gets cold, windy, and snowy.
