Revolutionary Mile

The Revolutionary Mile is a 1.55-mile run through Downtown Trenton, beginning at South Warren and West Front Streets. Also known as the Revolutionary Mile Team Challenge, it is designed as a fast evening race, not a long-distance event. Companies, schools, community groups, and individual runners may enter, with teams formed by captains. A Historic Footsteps Walkers option is available for those who wish to follow the same route at a slower pace, including storytelling prompts. The course features cobblestone streets and downtown landmarks, with yellow umbrellas indicating the historic route. Runners can select George or Martha’s team, and Historic Footsteps participants can choose William Trent or Sarah’s team, adding a playful Revolutionary-era theme. The race aligns with the Nation’s 250th celebration, integrating history into the event’s structure. Each participant receives a downtown gift card, linking the event to Trenton’s local businesses.

Memorial Main Street Mile

The Memorial Main Street Mile is a chip-timed one-mile race on Main Street in historic Yardley Borough, Pennsylvania, held as part of the Memorial Day weekend. The main race starts early in the morning at Wells Fargo Bank on South Main Street, and a kids race for ages 6 to 14 goes off just before it. Walkers and strollers are welcome, with slower participants asked to line up at the back. The route is simple: one straight mile through Yardley, finishing at the Yardley Friends Meeting House on North Main Street. The race benefits American Legion Post 317 and is hosted by the Yardley Borough Parks and Recreation Board. Awards go to the top three runners in each age group, based on chip net time, with a short ceremony after the race on the meeting house grounds. Runners need to finish within 20 minutes to count for awards, and the full course closes after 30 minutes.

About cycling & running in Trenton

Trenton-Princeton Training Ground

Running: Locals run the Delaware and Raritan Canal Path when they want flat Z2 miles with mileage marks and no drama. Princeton Running Club keeps a deep route list, from the Harrison Street-Towpath Loop at 3.3 miles to the Mercer Park route at 21.0 miles. Fleet Feet Princeton hosts Thursday night group runs at 6:30pm from the shop, with 3 or 5 miles and a walking group. Institute Woods gives summer shade and relatively wide trails. Mountain Lakes and Witherspoon woods bring hilly, twisty singletrack. Revolutionary Mile, Cerebral Palsy Awareness 5K, and Garden of Reflection 5K give the calendar its local bite.

Cycling: Locals ride the D&R Canal towpath for base miles because it is flat, but certainly gravel. The Delaware and Raritan Canal Path can run 60 or 70 miles if you keep going. Princeton, Trenton, River, & Hills starts in Princeton, rolls through Hamilton and Trenton, heads up the Delaware River to New Hope, and hits the hills between Lambertville and Rocky Hill. The loop is 3 km and gains 491 m. Sourland Cycles sits near the good stuff, with women’s rides Wednesday night and Friday morning, plus beginner-intermediate rides Tuesday and Friday at lunch. Bikes & Beers Hamilton Township is the easy anchor event.

Season: Summer suits runners because Institute Woods is almost entirely shaded, and locals use it for steady miles when the towpath feels exposed. Fall owns the bike vibe around Lake Carnegie, and locals say they definitely miss the fall at Princeton. The D&R Canal towpath stays useful after heavy rain, but muddy spots and puddles can show up. Winter changes both sports toward practical miles, fewer long hangouts, and more routes that start close to town. The Lawrence Hopewell Trail helps when you want mixed paved and unpaved miles around Rosedale Lake. Sourland Mountain Preserve stays a tougher choice with hills, boulders, and vistas.
