Charlotte, pour la course à pied, t'offre plein de miles de greenways en ville et aux alentours, donc c'est facile d'accumuler les base miles. Les locaux, on utilise souvent Little Sugar Creek Greenway parce que ce chemin pavé multi-usage fait 19 miles et c'est parfait pour du Z2 tranquille, des sorties longues ou des progressions bien propres. Au sud de Tyvola Road, c'est plus calme et boisé, avec la rivière qui fait la conversation. Four Mile Creek Greenway t'offre jusqu'à 12 miles, et la Rail Trail, c'est jusqu'à 10 miles. Avec le Charlotte Running Club et Charlotte Running Company, la semaine est bien remplie. Le Around the Crown 10K, c'est en septembre, et le Novant Health Charlotte Marathon, c'est l'événement majeur de novembre.

Pour le vélo, on a un bon mix entre les balades sur greenways, les boucles autour de l'aéroport et le tout-terrain. Le S. La boucle de l'aéroport OMB, c'est des options de 20-mile et 30-mile, et le 24 Hours of Booty, c'est l'événement phare.

De la fin de l'automne au début du printemps, c'est la meilleure période pour s'entraîner à Charlotte. Les miles sont plus agréables et on a moins de soucis avec la chaleur, que ce soit pour la course ou le vélo. L'été, ça rime avec matins chauds et humides. Du coup, les locaux, on part tôt, on prend de quoi boire et on fait des intervalles réalistes plutôt que de forcer sur chaque séance. Les coureurs privilégient les greenways ombragées, McAlpine Creek Park, Freedom Park et les longues sorties en Z2. Les cyclistes, eux, vont au Whitewater Center, sur l'Anne Springs Close Greenway, et sur les routes vallonnées quand le soleil est gérable. L'hiver, la ville ne s'arrête pas, car début décembre, les max sont dans les 50s Fahrenheit. Les sorties de groupe dépendent de la météo, et les cyclistes appellent le magasin quand ça descend sous les 40 degrees.
