Epidavrios Dromos - Half Marathon
Epidavrios Dromos is a 21 km half marathon in Epidaurus, Greece. It takes place in late September, starting at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus by the sea and finishing at the ancient sports grounds of the Sanctuary of Asclepius. The race connects two renowned theater sites, concluding within the Ancient Stadium near Ligourio. The route is integrated with the area's archaeology, not merely passing by it. The event accommodates runners of all abilities, offering a 5K and a 1 km children's race alongside the half marathon. The course begins near the harbor of Ancient Epidaurus, moving inland towards Ligourio. It comprises a mix of public road and trail, with approximately 16 km on asphalt and 5 km off-road. Participants will traverse cobbled streets, a village square, and the sacred landscape surrounding the Asklepion before reaching the stadium finish. The half marathon involves a 479 m elevation gain, presenting a challenging run. This event is organized by the Municipality of Epidaurus with local and regional backing, including the antiquities authority for Argolis. It attracts an international field, with runners from 22 countries noted in the source.
