Hannover is the regional hub for flat, canal-based running and cycling across northern Lower Saxony. The Grüner Ring Hannover loops 62km through parks and forest around the city centre, while road cyclists tackle the Mittsommer-CTF (63km) and longer routes into the Weser and Leine valleys to the south—Vom Fössefeld durch das Leinetal (111km) climbs gradually toward the Harz foothills. Runners find consistent flat terrain around the Maschsee lake and towpath networks; serious elevation gain requires heading 50km+ south toward Göttingen or the Harz.
