ジーロングでの練習あれこれ

ジーロングでは、2026年に市中心部から80 km以内で22件のHalf Marathonレースが開催されます。今後の日程、定期シリーズ、近隣のその他のレースをまとめて確認できます。

地元のランナーはまずBarwon Riverを走るかな。川沿いはすごく気持ちいいし、道もZ2で無理なく走れるからね。コースは32kmで、獲得標高は51mくらい。Geelong Runners Clubは無料で、楽しくて、誰でも参加できる雰囲気だし、Geelong Cross Country Clubはちゃんとしたクラブレースって感じだよ。Kardinia ParkはGeelong Running Festivalのメイン会場になってるし、Run4Geelongはウォーターフロントでみんなで楽しく走るイベントだね。Barwon Heads Running Festivalは海岸沿いのフラットなコースが気持ちいいよ。John Landy Athletics Fieldは、ごまかしのきかないインターバル練習にぴったりだ。

地元のサイクリストは、湾岸を軽く流すライドから、ガチで追い込むライドまで何でもやるよ。Geelong Cycling Clubは1911年から続く老舗で、Barwon Heads RoadのBelmontにあるGeelong Criterium Circuitの敷地内にあるCycling Regional Pavilionが拠点になってるんだ。Belmont Crit Circuit、Eastern Gardens、Waurn Ponds Drive、Paraparap、Moriac General Store、Deans Marsh Gravel Classicあたりが、よくレースで使われる場所だね。Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road RaceはGeelongのウォーターフロントからスタートして、Eastern Park、Barwon Heads、Torquayを抜けていくよ。Barrabool Hillsはパンチのある登り坂と、一気に下るダウンヒルが特徴。Challambra Crescentは勾配18%にもなるし、Melville Avenueは20%超えの坂もあるんだ。

1月と9月はライドにぴったりの月で、Bay Trail、Bellarine Rail Trail、Barwon River trailでbase milesを稼ぐのに向いてるね。2月が一番暑い月だから、地元の人は早朝に出発して、ウォーターフロントでしっかり走るよ。穏やかだけど暖かい夏の日で、西風が吹くことが多いかな。夏のライドは、特に風が強い日は最初はきつく感じるかも。Bellarine PeninsulaとかSurf Coast方面に向かう時とかね。7月が一番寒い月で、冬になるとランニングは安定したリバーループや、舗装されたBarwon Valley Parkのコース、Eastern Park周辺での短い距離の練習にシフトする人が多いかな。冬のライドも悪くないけど、地元の人はコース選びを慎重にするよ。
