ある8 kmのルートはAnderson Street hillが結構キツいんだよね。8 kmの周回コースもあるけど、2周するとだいたい10 kmになるって言われてる。あと、2 kmのサーキットもあるよ。北側のランナーはMerri Creek、Yarra paths、Royal Park、Princes Parkを繋いでbase milesを稼いでるね。Full of Beans run clubは毎週水曜の夜にMaribyrnong Riverで集まってるよ。Nile Run Clubは毎週土曜の朝9時にThe Tanで集合してるね。ASICS Run MelbourneとNike Melbourne Marathon Festivalは、こっちのメインイベントだね。

サイクリストはYarra Boulevardを平日の定番にしてるね。1周13 kmで、だいたい200 mの登りがあるからさ。Beach RoadはPort Phillip Bay沿いを走るコースで、Port Melbourne、St Kilda、Elwood、Brighton、Sandringham、Mentone、Frankstonを通るクラシックなロングZ2ライドの定番だね。Tour de Burbsは毎週火曜と木曜の夜にChandler HighwayとYarra Boulevardで集まってるよ。Dandenong Rangesには1 in 20やThe Wallがあるんだけど、The Wallは一部で平均10%の勾配があるんだ。Arthur’s Seat、Kinglake、Mount Hotham、Mt Dandenongは、もっと本格的な登りライドにぴったりだよ。Amy’s Gran Fondo、Highlands Fling、Gembrook Gravel Explorerは、サイクリングイベントのメインどころだね。

春と夏は、ランナーもサイクリストも日照時間が長くて、朝も暖かくて、base milesをしっかり積みたいときに最高の季節だね。メルボルンは内陸の暑い地域と南の冷たい海の間に位置してるから、夏の天気は結構変わりやすいんだ。強い寒冷前線、雷雨、雹、強風、それに急な気温低下なんかで、楽なZ2ライドやランが急に防寒対策必須になっちゃうこともあるよ。冬は涼しくて、曇りがちだけど、OtwayとMacedon Rangesのおかげで、ビクトリア州南部にしては珍しく乾燥してるんだ。ランナーはThe Tan、Albert Park Lake、それに小川沿いの道を走り続けてるよ。サイクリストは、コンディションが良いときはBeach Road、Yarra Boulevardでのインターバル、gravel、そしてヒルクライムと、色々な練習を組み合わせる感じだね。
