Marathoncross um den Messerpokal is a trail running event held annually in Steinbach, a district of Bad Liebenstein in Thuringia, Germany. It is also known as Steinbacher Messertrail am Inselsberg, offering races from 10 km and half marathon up to a full marathon and a 50 km ultra. This is not a flat road race: the marathon includes approximately 1,550 meters of climbing, while the ultra adds about 2,000 meters of elevation gain.
The start and finish are at the Schanzenanlage im Schleifkotengrund. The course features rooty and gravelly trails with consistent ascents and descents around Bad Liebenstein. WSV 1907 Steinbach e.V. organizes the event, which caters to various ages and abilities. Children have junior races, runners can select from several distances, and participants can opt for 10.6 km routes for walking or Nordic walking, with Nordic Walking also available for longer distances like 21 km.
