The SVE-Steinwiesenlauf is a Sunday race day featuring short, local-friendly distances: a Bambini run, a 2.9 km student race, a 5 km run, and a 10 km main race. The shift from Friday evening to Sunday proved successful, with the event selling out days before the start at 350 registered runners. The youngest participants begin the morning at 9 AM, and the Bambini race consists of exactly one full lap of the stadium; in the most recent reported edition, 60 children completed it.
The student race includes a distinctive course design, spanning 2.9 km and crossing an autobahn bridge twice. The 5 km is the most populated race, while the 10 km attracts faster club runners, including winners from Hamburg Running and athletes from SVE, HSV Leichtathletik, ETV, and Airbus SG. The competition can be close: one 5 km victory was secured by a single second, and the 10 km winner just missed his own course record. Families fill the sidelines for the early races, children receive medals, and the SVE mascot attends the medal and award ceremonies.
