The Kavousi Mountain Half Marathon is a 22.3 km trail race held in Kavousi, a village in Lasithi, Crete. This circular mountain route begins and ends in the village center. The distance exceeds a standard half marathon, with the climbing being the primary challenge: the course ascends 1,450 meters, with 85% on trail and the remainder on dirt road. It is for adults aged 18 and above, with age groups from 18-29 to 60+, alongside the organizer's general categories.
The route crosses the Havga and Mesonas gorges, passing hamlets such as Panagia, Melisses, Trapezas, Kato Mylonia, Tsamantis, and Drakaleuri. It then reaches the Limnia Plateau, the Xarampelas cypress forest, and a section of the E4 path. The Kavousi Cultural Association organizes the race, with technical assistance from Kavousi Mountain Runners and backing from Crete regional and Ierapetra municipal authorities. The event, part of the Mountain Races of Kavousi's twelfth edition, maintains a village-race atmosphere with five aid stations, transport from Heraklion, a runner package, and a meal for participants and their companions.
