Letni Bieg Piastów takes place at Polana Jakuszycka in Szklarska Poręba, situated in the Izerskie Mountains near the Czech border. The Sunday Jakuszyce short race and Nordic Walking event is part of a late-August summer running weekend. It offers shorter options of approximately 6 km and 12-13 km, complementing the longer 12, 22, and 50 km races. This is a mountain event, but accessible: the routes consist of gravel, dirt paths, and grass, with moderate elevation changes for the terrain. Consequently, it is a popular choice for road runners new to mountain running, and the 50 km race often serves as a progression beyond marathon distance.
The short Jakuszyce route begins and ends at Polana Jakuszycka, utilizing paths shared by runners and Nordic walkers. It heads towards Orle via the Spacerowa trail, runs alongside the Izera river near the Czech border, and features the local landmark Samolot, commemorating a World War II plane crash site. The longer 23 km route crosses forest terrain around Kozi Grzbiet and incorporates the old Szklarska Road, recognized by many winter visitors as the Elektrownia Turow ski route. Almost two thousand participants have registered for the summer weekend, with runners coming from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Great Britain. Children have their own races, including Bieg Przedszkolaka and Letnia Wyprawa Zuchow, indicating the event caters to families alongside adult trail runners.
