The Bałtycki Maraton Brzegiem Morza is a beach marathon held annually in Jastarnia, located on Poland’s Baltic coast, at the close of August. Alongside the full marathon, the Bałtycki Półmaraton Brzegiem Morza is also offered, allowing participants to select between the marathon or half marathon distance. Its primary appeal is straightforward and distinctive: the entire marathon course is set on sand, positioning it as Poland’s sole race of its kind and one of just two in Europe.
The course traces the Baltic shoreline, extending from Jastarnia through Jurata and towards Władysławowo, closely linking the race to the Hel Peninsula rather than urban roads or park trails. The running surface is the defining characteristic: beach running alters the cadence, grip, and exertion when contrasted with a standard road marathon. The event also features a children’s race, extending the weekend’s activities beyond marathon and half marathon participants to include families near the Jastarnia start area.
