地元の人たちは、バーミンガムの公園や尾根道、綺麗な住宅街をつなぐ道を走ってるよ。Lakeshore Trailは、フラットな舗装路が5 milesもあって走りやすい。HomewoodとMountain Brookはロードランにすごく良くて、特にLakeshore Trail、Mountain Brook、Homewoodを組み合わせると15 miles以上も走れちゃうんだ。トレイルランナーにはRed Mountain Parkが15 milesのダートを提供してくれるし、Moss Rock Preserveも12 milesのトレイルがあるよ。Birmingham Track Clubは毎週土曜日にThe Trak Shak Homewoodで集まって走ってるし、Alchemy Run Clubはdowntownで9から13 milesくらいのロングランをしてるね。Run Magic CityとかBridge Builder 5Kとか、地元のレースもあるんだよ。

こっちのロードのペースを作ってるのはBirmingham Bicycle Clubだね。毎週火曜日はBotanical Gardens、Dog Bite、Easy Roadからライドに出てるし、毎月第3土曜日にはロードライドもあるんだ。BBC Spring Metricっていうルートは98 kmで920 mアップするから、かなり走りごたえのあるベースマイルになるよ。Birmingham Permanentルートは103.3 kmで994 m登るし、Northeast Loopルートは83.6 kmで1,051 mも上るんだ。Red Mountain、Shades Mountain、Sand Mountain、Ruffner Mountainあたりが主な登りポイントだね。マウンテンバイカーにはRideBHMがあって、20本のダウンヒルコース、220 feetのバーティカルドロップ、州内でも最高にヤバいダウンヒルが楽しめるよ。BBC 100 Dragon Century Challenge、Tour de Cahaba、Ride of Silenceとかが、こっちの主要なイベントかな。

春と秋が一番いい時期だよ。気候がちょうど良くて、湿度も下がるから、ランナーもライダーも一日中快適にインターバルとか積めるんだ。平均気温は7°Cくらいかな。夏は32°Cになる日が65日もあるから、地元の人たちは早朝から走り始めて、Z2をしっかり意識して、木陰の多いトレイルで日差しを避けるようにしてるよ。冬は平均8°Cで、雪は5 cmくらい降るから、レイヤーを重ねてグループランやロードライド、シクロクロス、トレイルの日も続けてるよ。
