The Aurlandsfjellet Xtreme Triathlon is a mountain-and-fjord triathlon held in Aurland, Norway. It begins with a 1.9 km swim in Aurlandsfjorden, followed by a bike leg that ascends Aurlandsfjellet. The swim commences at the public beach in Aurland, crossing cold, clear fjord waters typically ranging from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Participants swim directly from the beach, make a turn along the shore, and then return towards land, with kayaks providing safety support. The fjord water is noted for being less salty than open sea, sharp enough to numb the skin, and clear enough for visibility deep below. Following the swim, the bike course transitions the race from the fjord up to the Aurlandsfjellet mountain road.
