The Poço Negro Trail begins in Rio Mau, a parish of Penafiel in northern Portugal, sending runners onto hilly trails in July. Now in its ninth edition, the event features a 32 km long trail, an 18 km race, a 10 km mini trail, and a 10 km walk. All events start at 09:00. This is a local trail-running day, as entry fees support the Association for the Development of the Parish of Rio Mau.
The routes traverse Serra da Boneca, Estivada, and the Rio Mau valley. The most challenging course ascends approximately 1500 m, while shorter options also include significant elevation gain. The name originates from Poço Negro, and the course passes near the waterfall and lagoon associated with this location. APDF Rio Mau organizes the event, providing timed results, aid stations, course marshals, showers, participant kits, insurance, photographers, and prizes or medals for all participants.
