About this race
Beside the Molonglo River at Coombs, this masters handicap feels like a low-key club morning, not a large event. The ACTMA Run/Walk Handicap Series: Coombs Molonglo River uses forest trails and paths through a natural bushland setting, with native vegetation nearby and river views appearing as you progress. It is designed for runners and walkers aged 30 and over, including beginners, but retains enough competitive challenge to be engaging.
Underfoot, expect mixed terrain: maintained trails in some sections, more natural surfaces in others, and a quiet, peaceful riverside environment that becomes apparent once the field spreads out. The handicap format is the distinctive feature, with staggered starts based on performance, allowing walkers, newer runners, and faster masters to pursue or be pursued. Club-style amenities such as tea and biscuits after the finish complement the atmosphere: run hard, then linger and discuss how the handicap affected your race.
