King of the Mountain

About this race
North Trailhead offers a straightforward start: a brief service road allows runners to spread out before entering the single track of Blue Trail. The core of the race is Oak Mountain, with Outback Highway featured early as "one of Oak Mountain's gnarliest climbs," establishing the character of a demanding, trail-focused run over a refined road event.
After conquering that initial ascent, "the most grueling stretch is behind you," yet the course continues to challenge. Expect rocky ascents, a "slippery pine straw downhill," a steep climb to the aid station at "King's Chair!," followed by the final ascent to Eagles Nest. A technical descent leads toward Red Road and a swift conclusion. This race attracts participants who prefer rugged terrain, significant climbing, and descents where the advice "watch your ankles here!" is pertinent.
