About this race
Pilliga Pottery hosts a three-day trail festival venturing into the "rugged beauty of Pilliga Forest" on sacred Gomeroi Country. Now in its fourth year, Pilliga Ultra is structured as a weekend campout for runners, families, and those who value the bushland they traverse. Activities include workshops, guided walks, live music, and communal dinners integrated with the racing.
On course, runners will encounter "technical sandstone escarpments," "flowing wildflower-lined single track," and "challenging rocky terrain." The shorter trail option offers beginners a genuine experience of the area, acknowledging the trails are not flat or smooth, while the longer routes require seasoned trail running ability and endurance. A central theme of the weekend is fundraising to protect Pilliga Forest from coal seam gas mining.
