Running: Locals run Hämeenlinna from the water first. The city centre gives you the Vanajavesi riverside route, which runs about 6 km by the railway bridge and keeps the shoreline close. Vanajavesi feels best when you want easy Z2 without thinking. The 5 km illuminated forest trails roll through fine woods and bite back with hills. Ahvenisto Olympic Park adds a marked 4 km cross-country route and a 3 km illuminated trail. RaKe sits in the local race orbit. Hämeenlinna City Marathon and Aulanko Tower Trail are the anchor races.
Cycling: Locals ride out of town on gravel when they want room. Häme by Cycle connects Hämeenlinna, Riihimäki, Forssa and the Evo area, and the network mostly uses sandy roads, quiet backroads and smooth gravel. Evo Green Gold Gravel Loop gives you 35 km for a tidy endurance spin. East Strider’s Trail gives you 260 km when base miles become a proper trip. Aulanko bike trails handle the MTB itch, and VlkMTB fits that crowd too. Tawast Cycling Club covers road cycling, mountain biking, trials and triathlon. The climbs sit in Aulanko and on the rare steeper Häme by Cycle sections, where low gears earn their keep. KiipulaMTB, Korkeakangas-MTB and Korkeakangas-XCO give the dirt calendar some weight.
Season: May starts the good block, and September still belongs on the plan. Summer gives runners late-spring and early-summer athletics meets, then Hämeenlinna City Marathon lands in late July with three 14 km loops and about 4 km of riverside each lap. Late September brings Aulanko Tower Trail, while late September also brings KiipulaMTB and early August brings Korkeakangas-XCO. Runners can use the 5 km trails at Aulanko and the 3 km illuminated trail at Ahvenisto. Riders get fewer named anchors in the brief, so the season leans back toward steady Z2 and route planning until May opens the bigger days again.
