Running: Locals keep running simple in Poitiers, with easy laps from the city centre, steady paths near the river Clain and la Boivre, and sharper efforts around Parc de Blossac. Entente Poitiers Athlé 86 is the serious club name here, with over 800 licensed members, over 20 coaches, and groups for running, trail running, Nordic walking, fast hiking, health sport, yoga, baby athletics, and handisport. Urban Trail Poitiers is the city anchor, because Entente Poitiers Athlé 86 organizes it. Marathon Poitiers Futuroscope, Foulées de Poitiers, Ekiden de la Vienne, and Trail des sangliers keep the calendar honest.
Cycling: Locals ride Poitiers for base miles, not drama. La Scandibérique gives the big line, with more than 57 km from Châtellerault to Lussac-les-Châteaux, passing through Bonnes and Chauvigny. V94 runs through Chauvigny and Poitiers, and V41 crosses Chasseneuil-du-Poitou and Poitiers. The Bishop of Tours' Path adds a 237 km historical route between Poitiers and Tours. Grand Poitiers feels best between valleys, medieval towns, and country lanes. L'Hypogée des Dunes gives the named climb point, while the real work sits in faux plats montants, relances, and quiet little roads.
Season: Spring suits both sports best, because Poitiers stays mild and the anchor events start to bite. April brings Marathon Poitiers Futuroscope, and locals use it as a proper test after winter Z2. Summer keeps enough rainfall through the year, but the season turns drier, so runners take the city centre early and cyclists stretch longer road days toward Chauvigny, Bonnes, and Lussac-les-Châteaux. Winter stays workable because the climate has mild temperature amplitudes. Locals shift toward steady mileage, shorter intervals, trail shoes, cyclocross habits, and fewer ego rides.
