About this race
The Bódva-völgyi Marathon is a September road race held in Edelény, within Hungary’s Bódva Valley. Its primary appeal is straightforward: it’s a point-to-point marathon, avoiding repetitive laps. The marathon and half marathon distances are certified by the Hungarian Athletics Association, with all course segments entirely on asphalt. The event also features 5 km and children’s races; the 5 km, half marathon, and marathon contribute to Ötpróba points.
The event maintains a modest scale, limiting total entries to 300, fostering a community atmosphere rather than a large-scale city marathon feel. The marathon has a 6-hour time limit. Entry covers chip timing, aid stations, a personalized bib, and a distinct finisher medal. Children complete a roughly 1 km course without a formal awards ceremony, though each child finisher gets a medal. For cyclists, self-supported tours are available: the 25 km Hangács-kör or the 84 km Aggtelek-kör, which travels through villages and the Aggtelek region before returning to Edelény.
