Run for AIRC Pisa

Run for AIRC Pisa is a spring race and walk held in Pisa, Tuscany, starting and finishing in Piazza dei Miracoli. Participants can select a 5 km or 10 km route, and the event welcomes both runners and walkers. The 5 km is a competitive race, while the broader event maintains a charity and community focus. Fondazione AIRC per la ricerca sul cancro ETS organizes the event, with entry fees supporting cancer research. The race village and registration are located in Piazza dei Miracoli, placing participants among Pisa’s renowned monuments before the course begins. This Pisa event builds on the success of previous Run for AIRC races in Forte dei Marmi, bringing a similar blend of sport and fundraising to the city. The concept is straightforward: participants traverse Pisa’s historic landscape, generate funds for research, and can join regardless of their interest in race times.

Randonnée MTB della Valdera

The Randonnée MTB della Valdera begins in Pontedera, located in Tuscany's Pisa province. This event is a spring-to-early-summer cycling day designed for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and cross-country riders. It functions as a randonnée, offering participants a choice of several off-road or mixed-surface routes. Past route options have varied, from shorter 40 km MTB rides to longer 130 km MTB routes, alongside a 100 km gravel course. The event attracts over 500 participants, with more than 50 staff members providing support. The routes traverse the Valdera region, highlighting its hills, villages, and countryside. Riders receive practical support during the event, including several refreshment points. The finish area typically provides amenities such as showers, changing rooms, bike washing facilities, a race package, a finisher's parchment, and a pasta party. The organizers, a group of friends united by their passion for cycling and MTB, aim to create an atmosphere that welcomes local riders, club cyclists, gravel enthusiasts, and those seeking a substantial day on the bike without the intensity of a formal competition.

About cycling & running in Pisa

Pisa Miles By River And Sea

Running: Locals keep running simple in Pisa, with easy miles along the Arno River and longer work through San Rossore Natural Park. gives the scene a real club spine, and the line from them is right: the people beside you matter, the place you run matters, and the reason matters. The Pisa Half Marathon e VII Pisa Ten works as an anchor event. The races cover 10 km and 21.095 km on FIDAL certified courses.

Cycling: Locals ride the Trammino Bike path when they want quiet Z2 and a clean spin to the coast. The Ciclopista del Trammino runs from Pisa toward Marina di Pisa, and the route reaches the sea after about 14 kilometers before making a 28 kilometer round trip. The Trammino Cycle Path also gives riders a 30 km round trip on a fully paved and protected line through countryside, the Arno River, and coastal pine forest. Scuola Fragale is the local club name to know. The climbs sit in the hills on Terre di Pisa Biketrail, where 524 kilometers mix asphalt, dirt, villages, and proper bike handling.

Season: October, December, May, and June give Pisa its best training windows. Summer brings hot days with moderate rainfall, so locals move the intervals early and save the Trammino spin for steady base miles toward Marina di Pisa. The temperature hit 1°C on 22 August 2011, so warm-weather riding needs respect, especially on longer gravel days. Winter stays cool to mild, and snow is rare. The coldest day on record was 0°C on 12 January 1985, but most winter training just means layers, river runs, and steady Z2 instead of big heat management.
