Okayama Training Notes
Okayama hosts 1 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
Locals run the Sports Park, Undo Koen, because the loop is easy to repeat. Kōraku-en gives another favourite lap, and the trees help when rain comes through. The Asahi River route gives runners an 11km line for Z2 or steady intervals. Eiko Sports manages a running group along the Asahi River a couple of Saturday mornings each month. Okayama Multipurpose Grounds sees plenty of solo runners, and the soft-track path around the Zip Arena area is useful for easier legs. Okayama Marathon is the road anchor, while OTRA keeps the trail side connected through KSG100 and SMM2026.
Locals ride flat first, then point north when the legs need work. Kibiji Cycling Route gives beginners 25km with only 26m of elevation difference, and the Kibi Plain bike ride adds country paths through rice fields. The route to Bicchu Kokubunji Temple works for both cycling and running among locals. Okayama Kagamino Crossing Route starts in Okayama City and reaches Kagamino Town over 114km with a 791m maximum elevation difference. Oku-Kibi Yamabiko Route brings the harder hill days with 83km and 451m of maximum elevation difference. Kojima Peninsula, Kojima Bay, and the Seto Inland Sea keep the seaside base miles smooth.
Spring and autumn give Okayama the best training rhythm. The city earns the Land of Sunshine tag with mild, dry weather, so locals can stack base miles without watching the forecast all day. Summer brings warm humid-subtropical days, but Okayama still has the most rain-free days of any city in Japan, so early starts work best. Winter stays mild compared with most of Japan, and the city centre routes keep running and riding simple. The Kibi Plateau changes the feel when winter hits, with gentler hills for steady climbing and trail legs.
