About this race
The NZ 100km Championships is Athletics New Zealand’s national 100-kilometre ultra, run as a full-day race with an early start, a pre-race briefing, and a same-day cutoff for all races. Recent championship listings pair it with established 100km events, including the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 100k in Christchurch and a trail 100km in Whakatū-Nelson.
The Nelson course starts on Selwyn Place, runs down Trafalgar Street, and joins the Maitai River Trail before climbing from Waahi Taakaro Golf Course to Sharland Hill and Tantragee Saddle. It then climbs New Zealand’s first railway line to Third House Hut, follows the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary fence-line, drops to Saxton Field for a crewed aid station, climbs again through Silvan Mountain Bike Park, descends toward the Roding River, and heads onto the Hacket Track. Prizegiving follows the race, with some editions ending in a post-race dinner at The Lotus-Heart Restaurant.
