Piątka dla Bartka

Piątka dla Bartka is a 5 km charity run in Kielce, Poland, starting from the Athletics Stadium on Leszka Drogosza Street. It is built around one simple purpose: raising money so Bartek Orzechowski, a boy from Suchedniów born without a left foot, can keep getting prostheses, rehabilitation, and specialist equipment. The Polish slogan, “Biegnę, żeby Bartek mógł biegać,” means “I run so Bartek can run.” There is no timing and no prize money, so the event feels closer to a community run than a race for results. The course is short and accessible, but the point is the turnout rather than the pace. Entry income goes to the Nasz Maraton Foundation, which supports Bartek, and earlier editions have brought hundreds of people together around that goal. Bartek’s prostheses are expensive and need regular replacement as he grows, and his support also covers ongoing rehabilitation. He leads an active life, including cycling, hiking, and amp football training, which makes the run’s purpose easy to understand: people cover five kilometers so he can keep moving too. The series is planned to finish with its fourteenth edition.

nocny patrol kielce

Nocny Patrol is a night mountain race in Kielce, Poland. Runners and Nordic Walkers begin near Hala Legionów. The event features two main distances, officially 35 km and 17 km, though actual trail measurements are closer to 33 km and 19.5 km. Held in May, the core concept is to traverse hilly terrain after dark, either running or walking with poles. The shorter route presents a significant mountain challenge with approximately 700 m of elevation gain. The longer route involves about 1,350 m of climbing. Both courses maintain an average gradient of around 4%, meaning the challenge lies in consistent ascents rather than steep, short climbs. Recent fields have been modest, with just over fifty finishers for each running distance, giving it the character of a local trail competition rather than a large urban event. Fundacja Coś Dobrego and Karolina Banasik RRC are the organizers. Basic race amenities like changing areas, restrooms, baggage storage, and nearby parking are located around Hala Legionów.

About cycling & running in Kielce

Kielce Training Notes

Running: Locals in Kielce run with the Świętokrzyskie Mountains right on the edge of town, so even easy Z2 can turn lumpy fast. The Silnica River gives the city centre a simple line for shakeouts before work. KKL Kielce is the club name runners hear when the talk turns to proper athletics. Nocny Patrol Kielce is the anchor event for people who like a mountain run in the dark, tough routes, and night adventures. Nocny Patrol Kielce runs 32 km loops passing Piekło and Niebo. Piątka dla Bartka, Kielecki Bieg Sylwestrowy, Bieg Ulicami Bohaterow, Wojewodzki Bieg Szerzawski, and Bieg Lisów keep the calendar busy.

Cycling: Locals ride out of Kielce for base miles straight into the Holy Cross Mountains, so the climbs sit around the city instead of far away. Suchedniowski Rajd Rowerowy gives riders a clear anchor event when the legs want a proper day out. Wiosenne Ponidzie - Rajd III gives the spring calendar another target before the long rides stack up. The Świętokrzyskie Mountains make intervals honest, whether the bike is set up for a gran fondo, a crit block, cyclocross, or singletrack. Industria Kielce, Korona Kielce, Korona Handball Kielce, Żak Kielce, Rushh Kielce, and Gwardia Kielce show how club sport runs deep here, even beyond the bike.

Season: Kielce works best when spring and autumn give you steady training weather, because the hills feel sharp without the heavy summer storm pattern. Summer brings moderately warm, sunny days, brief hot spells, and frequent thunderstorms with a lot of rain, so locals start rides and long runs early. Summer nights stay somewhat cooler than in surrounding areas of Poland, which helps with Z2 after work. Winter changes the rhythm for both sports, because cool, cloudy days sit near freezing and light snowfall shows up almost daily. Locals keep running through it, while riders swap some road miles for shorter loops, steady endurance, and whatever the Holy Cross Mountains allow.
