Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon (BBCHM)

Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas is an annual late-February road half marathon that takes place on the Las Vegas Strip, with runners navigating streets typically used by casinos, hotels, and night traffic. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, the event now focuses on the half marathon, though it originated as a full marathon that ran for over fifty years, making it one of the older marathon events in the United States. The course utilizes the Strip and sections of the Las Vegas Valley, having been modified multiple times due to changes in ownership and format. Initially, the race aimed to attract nationally and internationally competitive runners. However, for many years, the field consisted mainly of local and smaller groups, sometimes numbering only 100 to 200 participants. The Las Vegas Track Club sustained the event after its newspaper sponsorship concluded. Later, director Al Boka revitalized it with new courses, prize money for age groups, and the introduction of a half marathon. Following its integration into the Rock 'n' Roll series, the full marathon saw a decline in participation, while overall attendance increased.

Sandwell Valley 10K

Sandwell Valley 10K is an off-road 10K held in West Bromwich, West Midlands, starting at Dartmouth Central Club. Runners follow trails and footpaths through Sandwell Valley, making it a park-and-path run distinct from a road 10K. The finish takes place in Dartmouth Park, providing a clear local endpoint within a major green space. Wulfrun Racing organizes the event. The entry listing also includes a half marathon, offering participants a choice between the 10K and a longer race.

About cycling & running in Walsall

Walsall Training Notes

Running: Palfrey Park becomes the regular running place for plenty of locals, especially when base miles need to stay simple. Jog Walsall keeps beginners moving with free Couch to 5K sessions at Willenhall Memorial Park, Oak Park Active Living Centre, George Rose Park, Bloxwich Active Living Centre, Walsall Arboretum, and St Michael's Church Hall Pelsall. Walsall Arboretum Running Club gives runners proper club nights, from 4km groups up to 10km groups, with everyone cheering each other on. Race For Life Walsall gives the town a 5km anchor, and Aldridge 10K gives locals a sharper 10km target.

Cycling: Walsall Area Cycling gives riders easy to middle paced leisure bike rides from Aldridge, Pelsall, and Bloxwich. Walsall Roads Cycling Club brings the old-school side, with the club founded in 1919 and weekend club runs still doing the job. Locals roll out towards Cannock Chase, Chasewater, Gentleshaw, Walsall Wood, Fradley, Lichfield, and Atherstone when they want more than laps around town. Barr Beacon gives the obvious climbing marker, and A Coventry Way puts 382 m of gain into the legs. Walsall Area Cycling makes the 100-mile ride option the big anchor when summer fitness is there.

Season: April and May suit Walsall best, because most riders get going then and runners can stack Z2 without fighting the season. Summer gives cyclists longer club days, with Walsall Area Cycling distances moving from 35 miles in winter to over 70 miles in summer. Walsall Area Cycling usually has a 100-mile option, so gran fondo legs get a proper test without leaving the local rhythm. Runners keep it steady through parks, C25k blocks, and chat-pace intervals.
