Recurring 5K races near Duluth

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Cloquet River Run
SAT OCT 10
The Cloquet River Run begins and ends at Churchill Elementary. A 1-mile run/walk starts at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. This Cloquet, Minnesota event, held annually since 2007, is designed for runners and walkers of all ages, not exclusively for competitive racers. Both distances feature USATF-certified courses, ensuring accurate measurement. Churchill P.I.E. manages the races, with proceeds benefiting Churchill Elementary's wellness and education initiatives, including playground equipment, healthy snacks, health programs, and technology. Over 300 participants attend, creating a community morning atmosphere alongside the race.
NCTRaces: 15x
SAT NOV 14
NCTRaces: 15x is a last-runner-standing race held at Palmer's Landing in Solon Springs, Wisconsin. It is part of the NCTRaces trail-running series, which focuses on small-field events near Lake St. Croix and the North Country Trail area. The format is straightforward: runners continue until only one remains. Trail Life Inc. manages the race series and offers coaching. Their mission centers on encouraging people to use trails, establish running objectives, and provide support for trail systems.
Gobble Gallop
THU NOV 26
On Thanksgiving morning in Duluth, Minnesota, the Gobble Gallop sends Northland runners out before the holiday meal. Duluth Running Company hosts this tradition, now in its decades-long run, which draws around 1,800 participants and offers a main 5K, the Tough Turkey 1-Mile, and the Gobble Giddy Up! Kids Run. The race is built for families as much as faster runners: some children first join in strollers, then come back old enough to run the one-mile race themselves. Parents and siblings often race on the same morning, and part of the proceeds support Safe Haven.
Wild Santa Run - 5k Fun Run
SAT DEC 12
The Wild Santa Run is a 5k fun run in Duluth, Minnesota. Registration includes a five-piece Santa suit, and participants are encouraged to wear the entire costume. The course winds through the Lincoln Park craft district, with the event bringing together hundreds of people in red suits outside Wild State Cider in December. Wild State Cider hosts the race, with the taproom as the event's focal point. Runners receive a post-race cider, followed by an all-ages after-party featuring holiday music. Children 8 and under can participate in a separate 1/4-mile Reindeer Run before the 5k, receiving antlers and apple juice or a small ice cream upon finishing. Over 900 participants have attended, supporting the event's designation as the Midwest's largest Santa gathering.
Pike Lake Races
SAT MAY 29
The Pike Lake Races offer rolling hills and unbeatable views. Whether you're running your first 5K, chasing a PR, or tuning up for a marathon, we have you covered. A beachfront bash with food, music, and fun follows the finish line.

About 5K races in Duluth

Duluth Training Notes

Duluth hosts 15 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Superior Hiking Trail because it spans the city and gives you technical singletrack without a long drive. Hartley Park, Lester Park, Chester Park, and Bagley Nature Center handle everyday miles, while Chester Park Trail follows Chester Creek when you want quick vert. The Boardwalk 5 mile keeps Z2 honest by Lake Superior, and Western Waterfront Trail gives a calmer option. Run Duluth works more like a loosely knit but closely tied running community than an official team. Grandma's Marathon Race Weekend, Duluth Trails Festival, Summit North Trail Runs, and Wild Duluth Races anchor the calendar.

Locals ride like the hill is part of the workout. The Duluth Traverse runs 40+ miles point to point, and the route uses 75% purpose-built singletrack above town. COGGS keeps the mountain bike scene moving, Ski Hut has a ride group, SpokeNGear in Two Harbors has a Sunday gravel ride, and Ski Hut West is a useful road and gravel hub. The climb is 3 km with 284 m of elevation gain. West Duluth, Skyline Parkway, Hawk Ridge, Homestead Road, Fox Farm Road, and Jean Duluth Road bring the climbs.

Summer gives Duluth its best rhythm, with Going Bananas Run on May 30, Grandma's Marathon Race Weekend on June 19 and June 20, and Duluth Trails Festival on August 7, 8, and 9. July puts the 18th Annual Breezy Point 5K on Island Lake, and August brings the Unity In Our Community 1-Mile Fun Run. Locals use those months for base miles, intervals, singletrack, gravel, and long lake-backed rides. Winter changes the planning because seasonal singletrack closures can matter, and both runners and riders stay flexible around trail access.
